When it comes to Halloween it's all about that famous dichotomy: trick or treat. It's the same with your costume choice. You can either go the freakishly scary route, or be the sexy version of [insert nurse, witch, fairy, Disney character]. But being safe and try-hard on Halloween is so boring.

We hit Instagram to find some of the best makeup looks that somehow seem to straddle the sexy-scary-pretty line very cleverly, plus we found a YouTube tutorial that will transform you from able-bodied to seriously injured. (Like, you might want to call a doctor about that eye, 'cos we're pretty sure its infected.) Finally, we found two makeup artists who can transform you to the ghoul of your dreams, but we seriously think you should book an appointment pronto.
