Get the look: The comic book beauties of Riverdale
Confession. We're fans of The CW's re-imagining of Riverdale, which is based on Archie Comics. Maybe it has something to do with the noir, slightly dreamy quality of the show, that has been described as Twin Peaks meets Gossip Girl. Maybe it's the darkness lurking beneath the veneer of small town peace. Maybe it's the excessive emphasis on good, ole milkshakes. Or maybe it's just the delightful Cole Sprouse. Either way we will be tuning in to season two that airs on 11 October in the US. In tribute to the show that brings to life comic book faves Veronica Lodge, Betty Cooper, Cheryl Blossom and Josie McCoy, we break down their beauty looks in the show.
In the new Riverdale, Veronica Lodge is the posh princess from New York who was exiled upon her father's arrest. And the character owes a lot of her style debt to Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf – think twinsets, prim pearls and headbands — as well as an enviable collection of designer shoes and bags. And she wouldn't be Veronica Lodge without her quintessential, shiny black hair.

The all-American Betty Cooper, as played by Lili Reinhart, is a natural beauty. You won't see a lot of heavy makeup on Betty, just a fresh complexion and pink lips and cheeks — except when Dark Betty makes an appearance. If you've watched the show, you will notice a lot of the Cover Girl product placements, but you can easily cop the character's look with any brand. Just use a light hand.

A lesser-known, minor character in the comics, vixen Cheryl Blossom is the red headed femme fatale at the centre of the murder mystery. Thanks to her parents' wealth, Cheryl is always decked out in designer clothing and vintage brooches. Played by Madelaine Petsch, she is also a fiery redhead — her long, wavy, flame-coloured mane is seriously hair goals.
Beauty signature: Thick, spidery lashes and creamy, red lipstick
One of the coolest things about Riverdale is how the characters are ethnically diverse while staying true to their comic book forms. Josie and the Pussycats are reimagined as a trio of black teenagers — kind of like a pre-fame Destiny's Child — with Josie as the Beyoncé, of course. With updated cat ear headbands and a whole lot of sass and attitude, Josie is a force to be reckoned with. When performing she amps up her makeup using lots of shimmer, highlighter and more eyeshadow.
