MFW FW16: Our best beauty picks
Beauty trends in Milan didn't disappoint with a wide variety of looks on show. From the fantastical eyes at Fendi to the perfect bold pout at Gucci, there was something for everyone. Here are some shows that inspired us to reach out for the makeup palette and the hair gel, or at least get a bit more daring in our everyday face paint. Undone beauty be gone.
1. Trippy eyes
What do you get when you cross 60's-era hippy makeup and bright, bold eyeshadow? The whimsical, pretty and playful eyes at Fendi of course. Aubergine is a unique shade contrasted with green, turquoise, orange and a smidgen of yellow cream shadow.
2. Liquid grey eyeshadow
At Angelo Marani, the models looked like they had walked out of the set of a particularly dreamy film — filters included — with their luminous grey shadow and glowing skin. A subtle but clever contrast? Their matte, silver-grey nails.
3. Wet look hair and perfect makeup
At Prada, the beauty looks were proof that retro and modern could co-exist seamlessly. Pin curls were slightly brushed out and given the messy treatment courtesy of gel and some finger styling to prevent the finished 'dos from looking too precious. The makeup however was immaculate.
4. Sexy, metallic eyes
At Giorgio Armani, the models rocked a unique grey-bronze hybrid eyeshadow that reflected the light in all the right ways. Multi-dimensional and eye-catching, the sensuous, new take on smoky eyes is something we're dying to try for a special night out.
5. A fuchsia pout
At Gucci, the bold pop of colour on the lips, painted in a precise and lovely Cupid's Bow shape was the only punctuation the look needed. Skip liner and mascara (but make sure your complexion looks flawless) for a truly modern take.
6. The thin black band
Channel the spirit of tennis player Bjorn Bjorg with this discreet take on a 70's headband. Worn low on the forehead at Versace and paired with kohl-smudged cat eyes, this was the perfect complement to sports-luxe fashion.
7. Natural screen goddess
Like modern day Sophia Lorens, the ladies at Etro wore minimal makeup to va-va-voom effect. Smudged liner, lashings of mascara, a healthy glow on the cheeks and raspberry lip tint was enough to accentuate their natural features without going overboard.
8. Pretty punk
The black block liner with feathered edges at Etienne Aigner was certainly fierce, but when paired with a gold strip on the nose bridge and septum ring, it took on an almost tribal edge that was daring, bold and so oh, so look-at-me.
9. Darling & dishevelled
Sweaty, club-goer bangs hanging in the eyes. Check. Artistically smudged liner. Check. Glowing skin that's just on the right side of a healthy sheen. Check. The usually romantic looks at Alberta Ferretti got a dirty twist this season.
