Artistic license

The London look takes a grittier, visual turn as designers and makeup artists straddle the line between beauty and art. With creative applications and colours aplenty, this is inspiration for nights out and theme parties

If it's a touch of subversive whimsy you're gunning for, the FW18 runways at London Fashion Week was a veritable trove for beauty looks that were contemporary art-meets-rebel lazy girl. A big departure from the sleek, wearable looks that showed at the Big Apple, painterly eyes and intentionally smeared lips underscored a graphic bent on many a face.

Another recurring element was the liberal use of bright colour — perfect for a bit of repurposing when spring/summer rolls around — as well as a spot of glitter embellishment. From Delpozo to Peter Pilotto, here's makeup that play with creativity to try your hand at, and keep in mind to forgo perfection because these looks are right at home with a slightly messy hand.
