Smells like good hair day

Text: Angelyn Kwek

Now your crowning glory can smell as good as it looks

While we know our way around a canister of dry shampoo, it's not very often we give its lesser-known cousin, the hair mist, as many spritzes. No doubt the argument that's been floating around is that a bottle of hair mist does naught but scent your tresses — you know, adding a nice flourish to your locks yet is ultimately useless. But it's time to shelve this belief because a new generation of multi-functional hair mists have cropped up, doing everything from making your head a fragrant bouquet to delivering styling hold and heat protection.

So if you're a gal about town who totes an emergency stash of hair products in her purse, consider slipping one (or more) of these hair mists into the mix to give your locks a dose of refresh that'll have people in a 100-metre radius around you wondering where that amazing scent is coming from:

OUAI Memory Mist, $28
Thank the hair gods for Jen Atkins. Doing what it says on the tin, this multi-tasking spray not only smells like roses; it primes your hair to shield it against heated styling tools and provides shine and hold to lock in your look until the next shampoo. Plus there's UV protection to reduce colour fade for those rocking unicorn manes.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian À La Rose Scented Hair Mist, $100
If you're a serial user of MFK perfumes, you probably already know of the brand's collection of hair mists. Debuting a new scent for spring, À La Rose is a feminine blend that combines centifolia and Damascena roses. Its long-lasting sillage also includes notes of bergamot, magnolia blossom, cedar wood and musk. How to: Spray liberally, do a head toss, repeat.

Sachajuan Ocean Mist Spray, $34
Volumising, texturising, and mattifying (three of our favourite adjectives), this is easy breezy beach hair in a bottle. Made with a combination of salt and sugar, the leave-in formula also works its magic on all hair types, holding your tousled waves sans the drying out, and is free of nasty sulphates.

Chanel Chance Hair Mist, $63
A name most would be familiar with; Chanel did a reboot of this house signature at the start of 2018 and now counts a lineup of hair mists to complement each of its four Chance iterations. Delightfully fresh and youthful, we recommend layering the hair mist with the perfume for maximum oomph.
