If you're a skincare minimalist, our columnist Dr Lam Bee Lan, advises going beyond the cleanse, tone and moisturise regimen

It's long been drilled into our heads that all it takes to achieve a flawless face is to cleanse, tone and moisturise. In reality, it isn't quite so simple. Just as different problems require different solutions, different skin types also require a variety of products and treatments. However, that's not to dismiss the importance of cleansing, toning and moisturising. But, by limiting yourself and your skin to a basic routine, you may be missing out on a whole world of benefits. Here's what you should be adding in:

Serums, contain a high concentration of active ingredients and are great products for not only increasing the efficacy of one's skincare but also in intensively providing goodness for the skin. In fact, serums come in different forms and target different problems too. Some serums help in the lightening of dark spots, some for acne reduction and some even aid in skin sensitivity. Kinerase C6 Peptide Intensive Treatment is a good starter serum for those who are beginning on anti-aging skincare. It visibly improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and also improves skin texture and tone.

Oils are also popular in the skincare world due to their many uses. One of the best ways to cleanse the skin is actually with good oils that can either be improvised from the kitchen or bought from a store. Many brands today sell cleansing oils that suit different skin type and are highly effective at removing makeup and debris at the end of a long day. Due to their gentler nature, they also keep the skin hydrated without any feeling of tightness.

Eye cream
It is important to remember the application of eye creams day and night. The skin around the eyes is most sensitive and delicate, which means it is easily prone to wrinkles and ageing. Getting an eye cream ensures that the area is well-moisturised, plump, and remains youthful.

Laser treatments
Once every three months, it would be great to throw in a laser treatment such as the Dual Yellow Laser. It has no downtime, is painless, and is an ideal treatment for skin problems such as vascular and pigmented lesions, acne, scars, and even for general rejuvenation. For those who want something quick and effective, this would be the perfect choice of laser.
