The minimalist skincare routine for busy people
Easy does it
While we rush through our days chasing dreams, making things happen, or simply having fun, it's important not to neglect our skin. After all, they don't say "Put your best face forward" for nothing. Like it or not, we are judged by our looks If you have no time or energy for a comprehensive skincare routine, follow my two rules:
1) Simplify your routine
If you only have five minutes a day to take care of your face, these would be the most important steps: cleanse, tone, and moisturise. This is to rid your skin of grime accumulated during the day, balance out the skin, and finally place a protective layer to replenish the skin.
2) Use multi-tasking products
Free up precious counter space with efficient purchases. These are my three favourite multi-taskers:
An oil cleanser
Often marketed as makeup removers, they are also suitable for general face cleansing. If you're too tired at the end of the day, you can even get away with a one step routine as oil cleansers also help to hydrate and nourish your skin. I like products that rinse off with water, such as Shu Uemura's Ultim8 Sublime Cleansing Oil, as it is more convenient than wiping off the oil with a warm, damp cloth.
Why just balance out your skin when you can also exfoliate at the same time? Exfoliating toners, such as Pixi Glow Tonic, are great dual purpose products that help to eliminate dead skin cells, so you don't have to wait until scrub or mask day to reveal clear skin.
My final favourite — moisturisers that can be used from head to toe. These are usually natural oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, and argan oil light. With one product you can hydrate your face, body, and hair — you don't even have to wash your hands in between application!
Building your collection of effective skincare essentials is like building a capsule wardrobe — it’s going to take time. What works for others might not work for you so on top of checking out popular products and reviews, also look at the ingredient list to see the active ingredients will work for you. Finally, remember to always wear sunscreen.
