Lipstick matte-ness

Following the success of its collaboration with the Paris-based jewellery designer Yaz Bukey back in 2015, this new collection boasts a shade for every look

We thought that the matte lipstick trend would die down soon after every brand seemed to be coming out with their own ranges, shelf after shelf were littered with them in Sephora and drugstores. But, the cult classic Rouge Unlimitted Supreme Matte by Shu Uemura continues to have a loyal legion of fans since its launch in 2010, providing lips with its signature colour payoff and melting texture without having a worry about the dreaded desert-dry and cracked appearance after.

If the thought of Yazbukey's iconic 'C'est Ahh' lips have set your heart racing with excitement, the Ottoman princess' label is back for the Japanese cosmetics brand's 2018 spring artist collaboration. Also known for her work with other brands such as Lacoste and Zac Posen, this versatile range, called the Mattitude Collection, zooms in on just the lips compared to their previous 2015 collaboration of false eyelashes, eyeshadow palettes and facial cleansers.

There will be nine new shades across four ranges — Sexy Red, Lovely Nude, Quirky Pink and Edgy Berry — and a total of 32 lipstick shades, with 16 of them being encased with the limited edition Yazbukey lip motif. Keep your eyes (or in this case, lips) peeled for new shades Yaz Red, Grape Jam, Coral Dance and Brown Is Brown, that go with almost every occasion and skin tone. For the more adventurous ones at heart, give the usual colours a pass and try out Powder Blue for an edgier and futuristic look.

To take your new lips to the next level, this collection also includes Shu Uemura's first-ever range of four limited edition Magic Metallic Lip Liner — Gold WOW, Bronze OHH, Pink YEAH and Gun Metal BANG — which can be complemented with the matte lipsticks and stand out from the rest. For starters, you can pair Yaz Red with a dab of Gold WOW on the Cupid's bow, or Coral Dance with Pink YEAH on the edge of your lips, and complete your makeup look with tips from Shu Uemura's atelier artist, Yang Yu Hwa.
