See how Peter Philips revamped Backstage collection was used on the models at Dior's couture shows for the perfect skin match

We've already written about Dior's backstage makeup collection, a revamped edit of eyeshadow and highlighter palettes as well as an expanded offering of face and body foundations. Now get a chance to see the products used in its natural habitat and point of conception: Backstage at the house's recent haute couture show. Says Dior Makeup's creative and image director Peter Philips, who was responsible for the collection, "Dior Backstage is a line for which I redesigned all the key items in the makeup bag. These universal products give us professional makeup in an efficient, intuitive way."

The no makeup makeup barefaced look might seem effortless, but it's all a clever illusion. For the foundation, alone, the diverse shades meant models could get a much closer match than ever before. Says Philips, "With 40 shades of Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation, I’ve got 16 levels of intensity across 6 skin tones, so that I can adapt it to every complexion precisely. Next, as a corrector, I used Diorskin Forever Undercover Concealer, as well as Flash Luminizer to add a touch of light. Lastly, I finished off with a fine dusting of Dior Backstage Glow Palette Universal N°001 powder to add sheen to areas that naturally catch the light.” He continues, “When needed, I used the lighter shades from the Dior Backstage Contour Palette to sculpt the face.” That's a trick you can do with stick foundation as well.

For the rest of the face, Philips used other key products for the perfect skin match. He says,
"Eyes were given a hint of emphasis with Dior Backstage Eye Palette N°001 Warm Neutrals. For light skin tones I used the softest shades  — shimmer pink and matte pink — which subtly 'open' the eyes. On darker skin tones I used ombré sculpting powder, shimmer purple and matte plum. Eyebrows were discreet, but defined and shaped with Diorshow Brow Styler and Dior Backstage Brow Palette." Finally the lips were glossed over with one of the shades from the Dior Backstage Lip Palette N°001 Universal Neutrals — either gloss pink, gloss beige, or gloss blush was used depending on the models' natural lip colours.
