1. Urban Decay welcomes an all-new eyeshadow palette to the family.

Not to toot our own horns here, but our trend forecast for 2020 did include purple-dusted lids. And who else better to substantiate our predictions than Urban Decay? The brand's latest palette, the Naked Ultraviolet Eyeshadow Palette, is a 12-pan love letter to the bold hue in a variety of finishes. Brace yourself for the highly-anticipated drop on sephora.sg come 16 June.

 

2. L'Oreal Paris finally speaks up on the Munroe Bergdof controversy.

The world's largest cosmetics company came under fire last week when they released a post in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. "Speaking out is worth it," the brand wrote. "L'Oréal Paris stands in solidarity with the Black community, and against injustice of any kind." This attracted the ire of transgender model and activist, Munroe Bergdorf, who was unceremoniously fired from the brand in 2017.

She tweeted, "You dropped me from a campaign in 2017 and threw me to the wolves for speaking out about racism and white supremacy. With no duty of care, without a second thought. I had to fend for myself being torn apart by the world's press because YOU didn't want to talk about racism. You do NOT get to do this. This is NOT okay, not even in the slightest." Both parties then had a "honest, transparent, and vulnerable conversation" which led to Bergdorf rejoining the L'Oréal family. "It feels good to finally have closure on this matter and I look forward to new beginnings with the L'Oreal team," she wrote.

 

3. Glossier launches a grant initiative for Black-owned beauty businesses.

The news broke via Instagram, where Glossier confirmed that they will be allocating USD$500,000 to Black-owned beauty businesses that sell physical beauty products. There will be roughly 15 grants issued in total, with Glossier expressing their support through capital, advisory support, and amplification. Interested parties must be 18 years or older; identify as African American; and be based in the U.S. Application forms can be accessed via their site. And that's not all on Glossier this week...

 

4. Glossier provides a sneak peek of their latest skincare-makeup hybrid.

That's the Priming Moisturiser Balance, an oil-control gel cream that hydrates, minimises the appearance of pores, and grants a matte finish with a subtle glow. No word yet as to its official release date, though we suspect it'll be sometime in July.

 

5. The Sephora Accelerate Programme welcomes its first-ever Singapore-based brand.

A mentorship initiative for women-led beauty businesses around the world, it helps guide founders on their journey of achieving specific business goals by teaching marketing stewardship, networking, and more. This year's cohort includes local label, Skinlycious, who aspires to be the one-stop skincare solution for acne, acne-prone and oily skin. Congratulations are most definitely in order. That's not all, we might add...

 

6. Sephora promises to dedicate 15% of its shelf space to Black-owned beauty businesses.

This will be done in three stages. First, Sephora will take stock of current shelf space and contracts. Then, they'll take ownership of their findings, identifying blind spots and disparities before executing a plan to achieve the full 15 percent. The brand's internal incubator program, Accelerate, will also shift its focus on female founders to women of colour.

 

7. Lizzo puts body-shamers in their place via TikTok.

The Truth Hurts singer and body positivity advocate clapped back at trolls in her latest video; a series of clips featuring her multitude of workouts. "Hey, so I've been working out consistently for the last five years," she states. "And it may come as a surprise to some of y'all that I'm not working out to have your ideal body type. I'm working out to have my ideal body type. And you know what type that is? None of your f*cking business." You tell 'em, queen.

 

8. Foreo launches on Shopee with exclusive sets and special offers.
