Sunday Riley expands into haircare, Kaia Gerber gives herself a tattoo, and other beauty news
1. Sunday Riley delves into hair care.
The second of cult skincare labels to branch out into hair care this year, Sunday Riley kicks off their new venture with the launch of a clarifying scalp serum designed to rid your noggin of excess oil, dead skin, and pollution. No news yet if there'll be full range or celebrity stylist collaborations à la Chris McMillan and Drunk Elephant — but you can bet we'll be waiting for updates with bated breath.
2. Kaia Gerber gives herself a traditional stick-and-poke tattoo while self-isolating.
Yup, it seems Gerber decided to take things in her own hands — literally — in light of the indefinite closure of tattoo parlours. "I didn't get too ambitious," she revealed in an interview with Glamour. "I gave myself a dot, so I could be like, 'Ah right, I got myself a tattoo this month. I'm cool." Uh, please don't try this at home, kids.
3. Kylie Jenner goes back to the hair extension life.
She may have been on a "hair health journey" just two weeks back, but it seems even Jenner can't stop going back to old habits. The beauty mogul just dropped an Instagram post of herself perched on a very comfortable-looking couch rocking (significantly) longer locks than before. Ah, well. It was nice while it lasted, right?
4. Charlotte Tilbury begins a new beauty series to spread positivity.
Aptly named Charlotte's Beauty Happy Hour, each episode will be aired via Instagram Live and features a rotating cast of Charlotte's close friends that include business leaders and red carpet stars. The weekly affair aims to reveal "the inspiring experiences and secrets" of "truly extraordinary people." Mark your calendars for when it all begins 1 May. And that's not that's new in the celebrity MUA sphere...
5. Wayne Goss divulges the first-ever product for his makeup line.
Granted, no details have been released except for this very cryptic image — but from what we can tell, it appears to be a lipstick. Or maybe a highlighter? Concealer? The possibilities are endless. Watch this space for updates.
6. Tom Ford drops two new limited edition Rose Prick Lip Colours.
The much-adored Private Blend Rose Prick Eau de Parfum now comes in a lipstick version, too. Or, well, two lip hues, if we're being pedantic about it. Meet Casablanca and Indian Rose; dusty pink shades encased in a limited-edition case painted in the signature Rose Prick Pink. This is one collector's item you're definitely going to want on your vanity.
7. Aveda has launched a multimillion-dollar relief fund for stylists and salons in the U.S.
Aveda Cares aims to aid US-based stylists alongside independently-owned salons and spas hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be done through six initiatives, comprising a US$1.5 million fundraising effort, free virtual education for participants, an increased online commission programme, and more. Kudos!
8. Coty awards US$200,000 to manicurists and hairstylists affected by the pandemic.
Aside from producing much-needed hand sanitiser, the multi-national conglomerate has also established a fund of US$200,000 through Hairdresser at Heart. The programme essentially enables stylists to further their careers through scholarships, competitions, and grants, allowing licensed hairstylists and manicurists to apply for a US$1,000 compensation to be used however they like.
