Jeffree Star was robbed by his boyfriend, Trump drops US$70,000 on his hair, and other beauty news
1. Beauty YouTuber, Jeffree Star, was allegedly robbed by his new boyfriend.
Buckle up, beauty buffs — this one is a real doozy. First, some context: Star has been dating basketball player, Andre Marhold, since August, as documented on his various social channels. Snapchat, Twitter, and YouTube paints a rosy picture of the couple — until, well, Star took to Marhold's Instagram to accuse him of stealing his things and ignoring his calls.
Star later took to Snapchat to address the controversy, claiming that Marhold had lied to him about his job, money, and personal life, which led to their breakup. "Then, all of a sudden, there's some LV luggage missing," Star stated. "There's some backpacks missing, and there's a few sunglasses missing." An open-and-shut case of daylight robbery? Nope. Plot twist: Marhold then took to Instagram using a back-up account, threatening to expose Star if he didn't take down the videos saying that Marhold stole. He revealed that Star offered him "expensive things" in exchange for his company, and that he has proof of what he has posted. Tellingly, Star then removed all the IG stories accusing Marhold of theft. We're just going to leave it here so you can process this mess, though it seems that's not all the drama Star has been mired in this week...
2. Jeffree Star has been accused of sexual assault.
This is accompanied by claims of physical assault with the use of weapons as well as the offering of hush money to victims, according to an investigation by Insider. This all supposedly occurred during the late-2000s, with multiple people stepping up to corroborate the story that Star groped men without consent and used close-range stun guns to hurt people around him. Five witnesses maintained that Star used a taser on a homeless teen, Gage Arthur, in 2009, after he rejected his affections in a cinema. He later drugged Arthur and forcibly performed oral sex on him without his consent when he stayed over at Star's apartment.
3. Donald Trump reportedly spent more than US$70,000 on hair services.
And that was just over the duration of filming TV series, The Apprentice (2004 - 2010). This amount is in addition to the haircut and styling services already provided by the production company, NBC. In an even more startling revelation, Trump wrote off the US$70,000 as a "business expense" under his tax returns — despite financial experts and IRS guidelines saying otherwise. What does this mean for POTUS? We... have no idea, actually. And in other presidential election-related news...
4. Biden Beauty is a thing.
Yes, that's Joe Biden, though he isn't affiliated with the label in any capacity. Launched by a group of anonymous beauty insiders, the brand has blue beauty blenders, totes, hoodies, and badges up for sale. This is done in a bid (ha) to get Gen Z folk to vote. "Inspired by the mantra: 'America is Beautiful,' we're merging beauty and politics with this brand that pushes forward a message of diversity, inclusivity and agency within the beauty communities - and beyond," they wrote in a caption.
5. Hailey Bieber bleaches her brows.
Fans got a first glimpse of her new look when she stepped into the streets of Milan rocking brunette locks and, uh, no brows. Speculation is rife that this was a temporary job done for Milan Fashion Week, though it is worth noting that it's not the first time Bieber has lightened her brows. The last time she attempted it was in 2016, where she recorded the entire process on Snapchat.
6. Drag Race's Katya is releasing makeup with Trixie Cosmetics.
Her mini collection — named Red Scare — will comprise a matte red lipstick, lip gloss, as well as red star-shaped sparkles. Users who purchase the full line will also receive free Katya-inspired temporary tattoos. Fingers crossed that this only the start of a beautiful partnership, we say.
7. Lauren Conrad Beauty will be expanding into skincare products.
It was just a month ago that LC debuted Lauren Conrad Beauty with five makeup essentials. Now, she'll be releasing 26 more products in the skincare and body care sector, including multiple types of cleansers, vitamin c oils, moisturisers, and the like. Talk about being an over-achiever, right? All products are available now on the brand's official site.
8. California passes the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act.
Also known as Assembly Bill 2762, it is the prohibition of "a person or entity from manufacturing, selling, delivering, holding, or offering for sale, in commerce any cosmetic product that contains any of several specified intentionally added ingredients." 24 such ingredients have been identified, including dibutyl phthalate, diethylhexyl phthalate, formaldehyde, and more.
