Dr. Dennis Gross debuts a body product, Hunter Schafer’s Studio Ghibli nails, and other beauty news
1. Dr. Dennis Gross expands into the bodycare sector.
We're extending a hearty welcome to the Alpha Beta Exfoliating Body Treatment; an all-over towel designed to remove dead skin, firm, as well as polish skin. Fans of the cult DDG chemical peel will be pleased to know that it comprises the same potent Alpha Beta acids as its predecessor, and has been deemed suitable for use even for those with keratosis pilaris — yes, that's dry, highly-irritable complexions. Snap it up when it hits online shelves at Sephora's e-store come 2 February, or in-store from 18 February.
2. Hunter Schafer shows off Studio Ghibli-inspired nails.
Designed by celebrity-manicurist, Mei Kawajiri, it features hyper-realistic renderings from Miyazaki's 2008 film, Ponyo. "I have Ponyo nails right now," Schafer states in an Instagram video. "It's just that good that I have it on my body," she adds. She ends off her post with a #HBOmax hashtag, ostensibly to inform her viewers as to where they can catch a viewing of the movie. Yeah, we foresee thousands of such replications in the months to come. CNY mani, anyone?
3. Sam Visser is named Dior's U.S. Makeup Artist Ambassador.
You might recognise him as it-girl Bella Hadid's go-to MUA. Dubbed "the next Kevyn Aucoin" from industry bigwigs, he will be working under the direction of Dior's Creative and Image Director, Peter Philips, for "unique digital and editorial projects as well as "red carpet partnerships." Congratulations to both parties, and here's to hoping it'll be one heck of a fruitful partnership.
4. Billie Eilish opens up on her body image issues.
In a tell-all interview with Vanity Fair, the singer discloses that she had turned to self-harm due to her "horrible body relationship". She then explained that she began to wear baggy clothes as a way to cope with that. "I wasn't really eating. I was, like, starving myself," she explains. "I remember taking a pill that told me that it would make me lose weight and it only made me pee the bed - when I was 12." And while things have improved from then, it seems both fame and trolls have exacerbated the situation in recent times. "I thought that I would be the only one dealing with my hatred for my body," she states, "but I guess the Internet also hates my body. So that's great."
5. The first few images of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana are released.
For those unaware, Stewart will be portraying the people's princess in Pablo Larraín's latest biopic, Spencer. Naysayers expressed their doubts over the casting when it was first announced, but quickly quietened upon glimpsing said visuals - with first-rate makeup and costuming having transformed Stewart into Spencer's doppelgänger. Whether her performance will live up Princess Di's legacy, however, remains to be seen. Fingers crossed.
6. Megan Thee Stallion shares a rare bare-faced selfie.
And apparently, it won't be her last. The Hot Girl Summer singer revealed that she'll be donning foundation less as her hyperpigmentation clears up. That doesn't mean we'll be deprived of jaw-dropping makeup looks, though — she quickly dropped a collab video with dating app, Tinder, after, where she sported a killer smokey eye. Phew.
7. Etude has teamed up with Hershey Kisses for a limited edition collection.
Just in time for Valentine's Day, we might add. The full range comprises three Etude Play Colour Eyes Mini Kisses (Milk Chocolate, Almond Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate) as well as Choco Mousse Tints in three varying hues. Even better: you can get them in Shopee-exclusive bundles beginning 3 to 5 February. A sweet surprise, indeed.
