Byredo's new scent trio is inspired by churches

Though they may be inspired by traditional, religious candles, Byredo's Saints collection can be enjoyed by anyone

Christmas is a time for reflection and thanksgiving. And if you're the kind who loves entertaining, candles are the perfect finishing touch. Byredo's new candles were inspired by veladoras — tall, votive prayer candles or seven-day candles. Often embellished with religious motifs, prayers and biblical text, these can traditionally be found in homes and sold in both churches and corner bodegas. Says Ben Gorham, a founder and creative director of Byredo, "Coming from a Catholic family and attending Catholic school, the church and its scents are a vivid memory of my past."

The three candles come in scents that are familiar yet given a modern twist. Altar has notes of clove, ylang ylang, carnation, papyrus, and vetiver. Rosewater has a heart note of rose petals, but accompanying notes of Bulgarian rose, geranium and rose absolute. And finally, if you love the smell of traditional cathedrals, Incense, has notes of incense, eucalyptus, guaiac wood, wild patchouli and crisp amber — to bring you right back to mass on Christmas evening. Encased in tall, blackened red glass holders, even if you're not religious, these fragrant candles will add a touch of love and light to your home.
