Burberry's new lipstick is a sheer-matte hybrid
Have you met your perfect lipstick? We have come across quite a few contenders in our time as a beauty writer and editor, from bold shades to caring colour, and the truth is that there is no one perfect formula. But Burberry Beauty, which is known for its plush textures and wearable colours is throwing its hat into the ring with the new Lip Velvet Crush. This time, the finish is a sheer-matte stain — giving lips the kind of natural, just bitten effect that has been trending for a long time. The lipstick comes in twelve shades and all the colours are buildable. It also has a very interesting form, a creamy, sheer liquid that is dispensed via a soft, rounded cushion applicator for a diffused, powdery finish, that you can intensify, layer by layer without creating that cake-iness on the lips.
Meanwhile, while Iris Law has served as the model for previous campaigns, this time she both stars and acts as artistic director of the new beauty launch. She cast her own eclectic group of friends, capturing them in intimate portraits that were shot in London. Along with the video campaign, Law has also created a zine to document the project. She says, "What I find beautiful is when anyone accepts themselves for who they are." If you're wondering the best way to wear this, makeup artist Wendy Rowe has some tips. For a stain effect, simply rub the lips together to work the colour into the lips. If you want a natural stain, take a dry, cotton bud to soften the edges of the lip. On the other hand, if you want a more defined finish, dip a cotton bud into the sponge applicator, and trace it around the lip line. Need some colour on the cheeks? This doubles up as a blusher, when applied on the cheek apples.
