From papaya and ginseng to prickly pear and juniper berry, these vitamin-packed superfoods have already come to be mainstays in our beauty routines. Local and international brands alike have embraced them face on. (Get it, get it?) Now, we're adding another that has been making cameos in the world of skincare: aloe vera. As it turns out, the sunburn saviour too comes with a slew of skincare benefits. (Who is kale? I don't know her.)

Dubbed a heavyweight skincare ingredient for good reason, aloe vera is a desirable ally in duelling with a melody of skin hiccups. Owing to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it's been known to promote healing to acne and help the skin replenish and preserve moisture. With vitamins C and E and moisturising characteristics part of its appeal, aloe vera-laced beauty products have been popping up like acai bowl bars have on every city corner.

Lest you need further proof that this stuff kicks ass, aloe vera can help fight signs of ageing and promote skin elasticity, which is why it's growing to be a sought-after ingredient in sheet masks. Oily complexions lap it up, since aloe vera-based moisturisers are generally less prone to leave a greasy residue (ain't nobody got time to blot all day) and delivers a natural hit of moisture to dry skin prone to redness and sensitivity.

But all that inside scoop doesn't do us much good if we aren't aware of the best ways to champion aloe vera's powers. Ahead, the beauty brands that are capitalising on this superfood craze.
