1. Beauty influencer, NikkieTutorials, comes out as a transgender woman.

The influencer took to YouTube to break the news with a 17-minute long video titled, "I'm Coming Out". In it, she details her journey transitioning from male to female, and reveals that she was coerced into telling her story because someone threatened to leak her story to the press. While the identity of the blackmailer has not been confirmed, fans suspect Too Faced Cosmetics co-founder, Dani California, who changed her Instagram bio to say, "Transgender huh? That's not the only thing she's been LYING about" shortly after De Jager's video dropped. The beauty community expressed their outrage, which then led to...


2. Too Faced Cosmetics co-founder, Dani California, is fired for making transphobic comments.

It didn't take long for the other co-founder of Too Faced Cosmetics — and California's brother, Jerrod Blandino — to react to the backlash. He broke his silence the day after his sister's comments went viral, to assure the public that her actions "do not reflect his opinions, thoughts, or feelings". He later went on to share that California was "no longer an employee of Too Faced" and that he was proud of NikkieTutorials.

3. Kat Von D steps down as founder of Kat Von D Beauty.

The company has been acquired by Kendo and rebranded to KVD Vegan Beauty, effective immediately. The tattoo artist and television personality released a statement confirming that she will no longer be involved with the brand "at any capacity" and that she aims to focus on other creative endeavours in 2020.


4. Hermès drops their first makeup product.

Hitting selected retailers in March, the Rouge Hermès comprises 24 lipsticks available in two finishes: matte and satin. As for its shade range, the label looked to their historic library of 900 leather hues and 75,000 silk swatches for inspiration. No word yet as to if it will be available on our shores. 5. Fenty Beauty launches a new pencil eyeliner for spring.

6. Sofia Carson is Revlon's latest Global Brand Ambassador.

The former Disney star joins notable figures Ashley Graham, Adwoa Aboah, and Gal Gadot to represent the label. "Revlon's ambassadors are the epitome of what it means to Live Boldly," she wrote in an Instagram post. "And I am honoured to join their legacy. Ricki Lake isn't the only one opening up about her journey with alopecia in 2020. US congresswoman, Ayanna Pressley, is in on the movement too. She talks about her condition in a video declaring, "As a black woman, the personal is political. My hair story is no exception. Sharing a very personal story today to create space for others."
