Get the look: Here's how to recreate the amped-up eyeliner look from Dior's Fall 2021 Collection
Layer it on
To be reckless with your eyeliner sounds like a recipe for disaster. And yet, Dior's Fall 2021 makeup look is forcing us to reconsider the notion. The accompaniment to Maria Grazia Chiuri's show — hosted at the Long Museum West Bund in Shanghai, China — comprised thick, razor-sharp lines that fanned out from the crease of lids; an edgy, inverted take on the classic wing adored by the masses. It's punk, subversive nature was further emphasised with the subtle quality to the rest of the face paint; an unexpected vision comprising luminous skin and a barely-there lippie.
In short? A bold, head-turning sight that's full of surprises. Beyond a steady hand, we recommend you approach this look with a can-do attitude and a whole lot of determination. Hey, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. And if anything, at least you've got an idea of the exact line-up of products used to achieve the look. We dish the dirt, below.
The luminous eyeshadow with 5 Couleurs Couture
In the shade 649 Nude Dress, to be exact. The shimmery beige hue was used to "tenderly light up the eyelid"; a great — and subtle — way to draw someone's gaze to you. Pro tip: use a light hand with this pigment-packed bad boy to ensure a precise dusting of eyeshadow.
The standout eyeliner with Diorshow On Stage Liner and Diorshow 24h Stylo
"I emphasised the look by creating an intensified eyeliner," explained Phillips. "For the Diorshow On Stage Liner 091 Matte Black, I drew a dense black line horizontally under the eye and stretched it inward to the inner corner of the eye. Next, I filled in the waterline with the Diorshow 24h Stylo 091 Matte Black." To complete the look, he ensured arches appeared well-groomed and neat with Dior's Diorshow Brow Styler.
The flawless complexion with the Dior Forever Skin Veil SPF 20, Skin Correct, and more
Philips began by prepping the skin with products from the Dior Capture Totale line. This includes the new Capture Totale Super Potent Eye Serum, which was followed by Dior Forever Skin Veil SPF20 Primer. "I started by applying the Dior Forever Skin Veil SPF20 Primer, which blurs the complexion, followed by a light application of Dior Forever in matte finish, which provides both coverage and translucency," he pointed out. "For touch-ups, I used a drop of Dior Forever Skin Correct, then I applied a very light dusting of Diorskin Mineral Nude Matte. I finished with Dior Forever Perfect Fix to set the makeup."
The natural, nude pout with Rouge Dior Satin Balm
To ensure that the model's pouts wouldn't detract from the striking eye look, Philips opted for just a touch of product. "Lips were very natural, just hydrated with Rouge Dior Satin Balm 000 Diornatural. And when needed, I added a touch of colour with Rouge Dior 434 Satin Promenade," he elucidates.
Minimalist hair and nails with the Dior Vernis 108 Muguet
To finish the look: a simple coat of Dior Vernis 108 Muguet. The mane maintained the simple yet polished aesthetic, where it was left loose and adorned with berets or tied into artfully dishevelled space buns.
