Buro. Beauty Club Singapore: Can the Burberry Matte Glow Foundation give us the smooth, glowing complexion of dreams?
Testing 1, 2, 3...
It's been a hot minute, but we're back. Just a few weeks ago, we unveiled Buro. Beauty Club 2.0: a dedicated space for all you beauty obsessives out there. Membership ensures first-hand access to the latest product launches, insider tips, and enlightening master classes conducted by luminaries in the field — as some of you might know, having attended our sessions with Fenty Beauty and Nars.
All things considered, it seems an apt time as any to unveil the next step in our plan to achieve (beauty) world domination: reviews. That is, our unfiltered thoughts on the latest in makeup, skincare, hair care, and more — as well as yours, too. That's right, we want to hear what you think when it comes to the most-hyped offerings in the sphere, whether that constitutes cult label launches or breakthrough finds from indie darlings.
Intrigued? Here's how you can get in on the action. Firstly, be sure to sign up via this form to join our Buro. Beauty Club. Then, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org expressing your interest in trying out this week's find. We'll then invite you to swing by our office to test-drive the goods for yourself. Naturally, you'll get to bring the product home. We'll contact you a week later so you can send in your final thoughts. Easy-peasy.
With that out of the way, let us move on to the next order of business: our first-ever review. Conducted before the circuit-breaker measures kicked in, it seems only fitting that we drop it now in anticipation of the phase 2 re-opening beginning 19 June. The contender in question? The Burberry Matte Glow Foundation.

I've always had super dry skin. This means that most — or, if not, all — matte foundations tend to dry me out, leaving nasty patches and flakes in its wake. And yes, this is after a full skincare regimen, mind you. I'm talking post-exfoliation, cleanser, moisturiser... the works. Its claims of being heat- and humidity-resistant only bolstered my doubts, where I was expecting a parched, craggy mien by the end of it. Surprisingly enough, I was proven wrong. Sure, it might claim a matte finish, but I find that it has more of a velvet-like texture if anything. I also liked how it sank into the skin quickly, which I think greatly reduced the likelihood of caking and flaking.

What stood out to me was the oil-control capabilities on this foundation; an entire day of errands yielded little grease and shine despite skyrocketing temperatures. And while I did like how it covered up zits and dark eye circles with ease, its high-coverage formula meant lots of blending were required. A little goes a long way with this one.

My skin type is relatively oily, so I tend to shy away from foundations that claim to give you a dewy finish. This one was a pleasant surprise, though, where it mattified and refined my skin all while granting a natural glow. I didn't experience any issues with caking or sliding either, and I love how lightweight it feels despite its full-coverage formula. It's vastly important that my foundation stays on throughout the day, too, so I was thrilled to see it live up to my expectations in that regard. I've been raking in compliments since I've started using it, so it's safe to say it's earned a spot in my makeup bag.

I wore it to work for several days. As a daily foundation, I find that it's a tad too heavy and high coverage. I'd suggest mixing it up with a serum to thin it out. However, I'd say it's perfect for photoshoots as the finish matte yet glowy, all without being drying. Its staying power is excellent as well — it kept my blush on for a full 10 hours.
While our reviewers were impressed with its concealing abilities, they did exert a significant amount of time blending it to perfection. A brush is recommended to see optimal results. It did, however, prove suitable for both oily- and dry-skin types, where neither of them experienced caking, flaking, or creasing despite long-hours of wear. We'd go as far as to consider this our best bet for phase 2, seeing how we'll be wearing masks and sweating it out for the foreseeable future.
