The best Korean foundations for glowing, poreless, flawless skin: Hera, Pony Effect, and Espoir, to name a few
To say that K-Beauty has made a massive impact on the industry is no overstatement. After all, they're responsible for the many a creative-innovation-turned-staple, granting glowing, luminous skin to the masses with sheet masks, serums and most notably of them, BB cushions. The lightweight, sheer coverage cousin to foundation, its popularity over the past few years is often credited to its natural finish as well as SPF capabilities.
It appears, however, that the tides are turning in 2019. While cushions are still flying off shelves, Korean foundations are rapidly catching up with an onslaught of second-skin formulations that provide more coverage than ever. Below, the latest and greatest of the lot for your consideration, all of which promise a smooth, poreless visage of dreams. Clear out some space in those overstuffed makeup drawers, ladies — you'll need every bit you can get.
VDL Perfect Lasting Foundation
With a velvet-matte finish as well as a highly breathable formula, VDL's latest foundation is a literal skin saviour in hot and humid climates. A weightless, air-like texture means your face won't feel as if it's being caked in still-wet concrete after long hours of wear. It also boasts a sweat-, oil-, and humidity-resistant formula that clings on stubbornly even through 31 degree weather. Available in 12 shades, VDL is one of the few brands that provide options for darker skin tones. Let's see more.
Hera Black Foundation
The highly anticipated foundation arrived on our shores just last month to great fanfare. And for good reason, too. The semi-matte, long-lasting foundation provides a seamless, flawless fit, and even comes packed with skin-moisturising ingredients to prevent cracking and flaking. Black's delectable scent is an added (but much appreciated) bonus.
Espoir Pro Tailor Foundation Be Silk SPF34 PA++
Silky smooth skin is for real with Espoir's latest offering. The satin-like texture ensures a soft — not greasy! — finish, and the inclusion of SPF34 and PA++ sun-protection provides an extra line of defense against dastardly UV rays. Though a 10-hue shade range is not nearly diverse enough to our liking, its segmentation based on pink and yellow undertones is a good start to effective expansion. Get on it, Espoir.
Banila Co. Covercious Powder Foundation
Riding the makeup-slash-skincare wave, Banila Co.'s foundation relies on microscopic skin-nourishing particles that disperse evenly for a flawless, perfect complexion — aka none of that pore-clogging, settling-into-fine-lines nonsense. It supposedly lasts up to 36 hours as well, and comes with UV protection that is friendly to sensitive skin.
Pony Effect Coverstay Liquid Foundation
The latest innovation from beauty guru, Pony, this liquid foundation has a soft, creamy texture that adheres to skin simply, drying down to a semi-matte texture minutes after application. Users have reported that its budge-proof, 24-hour claim holds up, though we remain unconvinced by their oddly limited four shade range — all of which appear to be in shades of eggshell. Please tell us expansion plans are underway.
