Son Dae Sik and Park Tae Yoon have quite the resume. Arguably Korea's most influential makeup artists, they've worked with the biggest names in K-Pop the likes of Sistar, 2NE1, Gianna Jun and Song Hye Kyo, and have been credited for pioneering and popularising the Korean "no-makeup makeup" look across the globe. The dynamic duo also boasts a portfolio that includes collaborations with Bobbi Brown and Shu Uemura, as well as their eponymous beauty label Son and Park (which they've since sold) - its best-selling Beauty Water had rave reviews from K-beauty lovers all over the world.

Never ones to rest on their laurels, Son and Park are pouring their tricks into a new beauty brand, Gesgep (pronounced jes-jep), which is born out of the belief that natural beauty should be accentuated with simple, sophisticated and efficient products. Categorised into three groups-preparing, layering and sculpting-the range include a sheet mask that soothes, hydrates, brightens and softens skin; a layering makeup base (One Veil 1ster), and the customisable G Palette where you can mix and match your favourite eyeshadow, blush, contour, concealer and highlighting shades.


Below, the pair clues us in on their creative process, makeup trends, and what sets Gesgep apart from competitors.

What inspired Gesgep?
Son: Nature. Our colours are inspired by flowers. Colours of nature and flowers are usually not too excessive and go well with everybody.
Park: I'm inspired by fine arts and the colours of Jackson Pollock's sprayed paints and Vincent van Gogh's art pieces.

Who is the Gesgep woman?
Son & Park: When we started Gesgep, we didn't have a specific woman in mind. We simply wanted to create a range of products that cater to the modern, busy woman. Our goal was to design "minimal and maximal" makeup — products that can offer maximum effect with minimal steps. Our customer is an enterprising woman seeking make-up to express and highlight her strengths. In fact, the age range of our customers is quite wide, starting with women in their early 20s to women over 40 in Korea.

What is your vision for Gesgep?
Son & Park: A brand that doesn't set beauty standards, but the ability to bring the best out of all styles and tastes.

What do you think sets Gesgep apart from its competitors?
Son & Park: We favour simplicity over complexity. Gesgep focuses on products and colours that bring out the classic beauty of every woman.

What is one thing you want Singaporeans to know about both of you or Gesgep?
Son & Park: Many K-Beauty products focus on the Korean domestic market. However, Gesgep is created for the world. In our 20 years working as makeup artists, we have worked with all skin types. When we started our brand, we created it based on this expertise and experience.

What are you top Gesgep products that you use on clients and why?
Son: Bare Cream is my favourite facial care item. I always put on it before doing makeup. I can't live without it.
Park: One Drop Perfection Foundation. As the name suggests, it provides flawless high coverage with just one drop. It was a real feat for us to create this formula and we are immensely proud of it.
