6 skincare and makeup tips to boosting radiance and achieving a glowing complexion

If there's anything worth getting hyped over this year (new releases from Fenty aside), it is the growing awareness — and encouragement! — of diversity in beauty. From comprehensive foundation hues to models with vitiligo taking center stage, it seems that 2019 is shaping up to a good one when it comes to embracing individuality.

And though the beauty sphere is almost always split on what is considered to be effectual and or beautiful, it appears that there is a single, unifying outlook amongst all the buzz of differing opinions: the desire for good skin. 


Good skin, loosely defined, is healthy, clear, and above all, radiant. You know the one: it is the otherworldly, luminous glow so often possessed by celebrities, philanthropists, and the entire population of South Korea. We'd say it's the water they're drinking, except we've seen Singaporeans bearing said glow when all they've been chugging back is NEWater.

Though to be fair, that's probably not all they're doing. As it turns out, the key to that pearlescent glow lies (largely) in making some selective lifestyle choices. Below, a quick five-step guide to getting a radiant complexion that will render your trusty Instagram-selfie filter obsolete.

1. Eat watermelon
This lycopene-rich fruit comes packed with immense benefits for your skin, such as sun damage and redness reduction. This prevents future skin wrinkling, thus bringing you a step closer to the ethereal, radiant skin of your dreams. 2. Clean all makeup tools thoroughly
Chances are, you probably have a sponge, brush, and or makeup tool in your arsenal that comes into constant contact with your skin. To this, we say: no more. These days, most peel treatments can be given at regular intervals, requires minimal downtime, and is considered to be a perfect lead-up to big events. Hit up your favourite search engine to look up some reputable options. Failing that, try a liquid exfoliator instead. Either way, the act of regular exfoliation helps smooth the skin's surface, stimulating collagen and skin matrix formation for that covetable healthy skin structure.

5. Sleep
It ain't called beauty sleep for nothing. According to sleep expert Rebecca S. Robbins, your brain gets rid of 60% more toxins when you get at least eight hours of sleep, which makes achieving a luminous glow literally effortless. We'll be sure to convey this to the next person who brings up the whole 'the early bird gets the worm' spiel. 

6. And when all else fails, turn to makeup
