Three ways to freshen up your tired 'do

Three ways to freshen up your tired 'do

Hair trends from FW15

We pick the three hair runway trends that got us excited. And tell you how to recreate them at home

If you're looking for a way to update your 'do without a cut, colour or treatment, try these three sleek styles that caught our eye from the fall/winter 2015 runways. As hair takes on a slightly more grown-up bent, add a touch of sophistication with a timeless accessory, deliberate part or low-hanging ponytail.

1. The hairband
The thick, hairband graced the biggest catwalks at Chanel and Fendi. Whether in leather, plastic or as a ribbon, it proved  a popular accent to the hair anchoring updos and lending an elegant twist this side of the Upper East Side.

Redken Full Effect 04 Volumizing Mousse, $32
This spray really does what it says — it gives the hair real guts and volume. Spray at the roots and massage the product evenly though the hair. It's extremely lightweight so it won't make the hair sticky.

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Drysun Finish
This is a fabulous product to really give texture to long hair without weighing it down. It's dry powder-like texture gives the hair a matte finish, perfect for that Gisele Bündchen-inspired beachy waves or to texture up a loose updo.

Top tip: Once your style is in place pull a few soft pieces around the face out of the band to soften the look.

2. The deep side part
The deep side part was seen at Donna Karan, Balmain and Rochas and looked utterly clean and polished. Big shine was the key word with this deliberate style as the hair reflected the sleek sophistication of the clothes. At Zac Posen, the look was unexpectedly natural and wavy, while at Donna Karan, the stylists opted for a slightly futuristic wet finish.

Percy & Reed London Smooth and Seal Oil, $30
A little goes a long way with this oil, you only need a pea-sized amount and your hair will feel and look super soft, sleek and healthy, which is perfect for this look.

L'Oréal Professionnel Elnett Hairspray, $30
A classic but a winner, I love that you can spray hair into place with the hold but seconds later you can brush is out and not even feel like you have product in the hair. It's great for the little flyaways you want to hold in place.

Top tip: Always section your part whenthe hair is wet, as this makes it much easier to get the hair to hold and stay in the part.

3. The low ponytail
Ponytails have been seen year in year out, but this season saw the ponytail take a route down south, nestled seriously low at the nape of the neck. At Dior, Hugo Boss and Alberta Ferretti the ponytails were loose and free, while at Carolina Herrera the ponytails were sleek and wrapped in silver ribbon coil.

O&M Know Knott Detangle Spray, $38
I can't live without this in my kit. It's great for clients that have really long hair or hair that is always knotted. Spray it on your hair to soften tresses and leave them in a blowdry-ready condition.

Redken Align 12 Protective Smoothing Lotion, $32
You really don't need much of this product to get the results you want. Add to wet hair from the mid-lengths to the ends and blow it any way you want. So lightweight it won't weigh even super fine hair down.

Top tip: When you've gathered your hair in a ponytail and you find the hair is not as smooth as you wish, go over sections again with a flat iron.
