Eyes on the prize

These new Fall/Winter eyeshadow palettes not only look good, they're a breeze to apply

Surprisingly, makeup brands tell us that eyeshadow is not a particularly popular makeup item with the Singapore woman. Some of the likely reasons women are not keen on eyeshadows are that they are more difficult to masterfully apply than other makeup products, they don't last on oily lids — a common problem in this humidity — and that it's hard to figure out what colours work well.

We love eyeshadow palettes as they take away so much of the guesswork involved in facepaint. Each palette is usually colour-coordinated such that every shade can be used in combination with each other. Some tips we've learnt: Always start with a good eyeshadow primer if your eye makeup tends to run — and then disappear by lunchtime. If you want that pro finish, invest in a good set of eyeshadow brushes and don't use the tiny sponge applicators that come free with the palette — sponge tends to absorb a lot of the colour and will not give you an intense enough finish. And lastly, don't feel that you need to use all the colours in a palette at once; pick and choose what you need, when you need them. Here are some of the colours and textures we're currently in love with.
