From the roots
The brand René Furterer, like many brands that have come before us, was born of the passion of one man. Born in Provence, Furterer was acquainted with nature from a young age, familiar with the qualities and medicinal properties of plants and essential oils. He went on to work as a hairdresser in Paris in the 1950s. Inspired by the silver screen sirens of that time, such as Marilyn Monroe, many of his clients had over-bleached and damaged hair — processing their hair, but not treating it accordingly. That is when Furterer made the all-important connection that “Beautiful hair grows from a healthy scalp, just like a plant in fertile soil.” And this ephiphany became the philosophy of his brand. Starting with products like a shea butter hair mask in 1957, Furterer went on to create some of the most iconic René Furterer products like its Complexe 5, which the brand cheekily calls its own version of Chanel No. 5.
A true visionary in the field of hair and scalp care, Furterer also created the first spa for hair in Paris in 1957 — one that still exists today. Part of the Furterer philosophy was the 'prepare, cleanse and treat' method, which offers a customised treatment ritual based on a precise diagnosis using the capilliscope, a patented diagnostics tool, so that each individual's hair and scalp condition could be accurately diagnosed. These customised rituals, treat both the scalp and the hair, for healthy, lively tresses. Can't make it to Paris for a treatment? Singapore has its own version, the Refind Hair Institute, that offers treatments using the brand's products and methods. But the most important part of any good hair and scalp care regimen is also the homecare, and this is where the brand excels with a wide-ranging and very specific collection of pre-shampoo oils, shampoos, conditioners and masks that treat a myriad of scalp and hair conditions.
