The 5 best beauty looks for 2016
Selecting the best makeup looks of 2016 can be a potentially divisive task. One (wo)man's favourite can be reviled by another, but based on certain criteria, here's how we selected our final five. First, the makeup should be worn by the woman and not the other way around. No matter what the trend, one should never look like they are playing dress up, so every look has to be worn with seamlessness and confidence. Look to Kristen Stewart's metallic foil eyes at the Met Gala or Bella Hadid's flawless flesh tones and delicate sculpting on the Cannes red carpet.
Second, the look should be current without being overly trendy. For the perfect dose of old Hollywood glamour, we turned to perennial favourite Jennifer Lopez at the Golden Globes for notes on how to do gorgeous lashes and a glossy, blackberry pout. Ironically the laidback and tomboyish Cara Delevingne wore her smoky eyes better than most, looking completely comfortable in her skin. Finally, while matte lips were all the rage this year, we eschewed the overly lined and perfected kissers of the Kardashian-Jenner clan in favour of Joan Small's restrained and modern take. Remember ladies, don't be afraid to change things up, but always stay true to your makeup sensibilities to avoid looking clownish or like a caricature.
