Beauty lessons from Rooney Mara, the new face of Givenchy's fragrance
In a world of sunny, smiley screen goddesses, the quiet, restrained beauty of two-time Oscar nominee Rooney Mara certainly stands out. With pale skin, dark hair and arresting, blue eyes, Mara is not just one of the most talented actresses of her generation, she's also one of the most interesting beauties. Favouring sleek hairstyles, understated, almost gothic makeup and cooly sophisticated dresses, as a longtime friend of the house of Givenchy (she wore a Givenchy dress to the recent Met Gala), she was the obvious choice to be the new fragrance's face. In fact, despite her cool beauty, which would not be typically deemed accessible, Mara has already fronted the Calvin Klein Downtown scent in 2013.
While no details about the name and type of fragrance have been revealed thus far, the Givenchy scent will be released in Sepetmber. In the meantime, here are three, key lessons we can learn from beauty individualist, Mara.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO SKIP THE EXTENSIONS
Fact. Lot's of Hollywood actresses invest in high-quality hairpieces and extensions for their red carpet looks. But Mara does not need length and volume for big occasions. She sticks to her signature, severe, dark updo— whether pulled back, centre- or side-parted.
SWITCH THINGS UP (BUT ONLY A LITTLE)
If like Mara you don't change your hair colour often, nor venture into more out-there hairstyles, try small ways to update your style — whether it's cutting blunt, microbangs or venturing into the occasional creative topknot.
IT'S OKAY TO MAINTAIN YOUR BEAUTY SIGNATURE FOR YEARS
As women, we've often been told that we can't stick to the same look — or risk looking outdated. But Mara has been wearing the same beauty look for years. In her case it's pale skin, thick, straight brows (notice how the shape never veers), minimal eye makeup and dark lips. If something works for you, it works for you — regardless of trends. While it's good to try new things once in awhile, building your signature look is great for building an air of mystique.
