Good news: The Sophie La Girafe Baby skincare range can be used on both you and your tot
As far of baby teethers go, Sophie la Girafe is pretty much the gold standard. Made from natural rubber and painted with food-grade paints, in a world of cheap and unsafe toys, this French classic remains a steadfast favourite among conscious folk and little ones alike. The new skincare range from France that bears its name is equally high-quality. It is made in Europe, and Ecocert-certified, so you know your tiny tot will only get the best. Designed to take care of delicate baby's skin, the founders adopt a less-is-more approach when it comes to application — just a tiny amount of product is needed at a time. Sophie la Girafe baby may be designed for newborns — it's safe to use from day one — but that doesn't mean that adults who want to indulge their skin or who have sensitive skin on their bodies can't partake in the brand.
Some of the star products include the Baby Hair & Body Wash, a non-foaming gentle body shampoo that respects baby's skin, and the Face Cream that luxuriously moisturises skin without feeling heavy. The range is also packed full of high quality, organic ingredients like organic white tea, lavender water, Nordic blueberry oil, karanja oil and oat milk, all designed to strengthen, protect and soothe skin that is super sensitive and still in the process of developing. If you're a new mum or mum-to-be here are some great tips from the brand on taking care of your baby's skin.
1. WASH CLOTHING AND LINEN PRIOR TO USE
Sounds simple enough, but this should be practiced on brand new clothes and even hats, as they come in direct contact with your baby. Also use detergents that are fragrance-free, natural or meant for babies.
2. DON'T OVERWASH OR OVER-BATHE YOUR BABY
If your child has sensitive skin or rashes, avoid bathing them too often. The French-based brand recommends doing so only twice a week, though we don't know if that will work in our climate. Do cleanse your child's face and nappy area on a regular basis though.
3. ALWAYS SELECT GENTLE PRODUCTS
If you use products that are too strong, you may inadvertantly wash away the skin's natural protection. Opt for gentle ingredients. The brand's Baby Oil, for example, is great for cleansing a baby's bottom when water is unavailable.
4. DON'T PANIC IF YOU SEE BABY ACNE
This is actually quite normal and happens to roughly 20 per cent of children during their first five months. It does not require any specific treatment. Just cleanse and throughly dry your baby's skin and do not burst any pimples.
5. PROTECT THEM FROM UV RAYS
As you may not want to put too many chemicals on them with sunscreens, especially before the age of six months, you can find other means to protect your child's skin — think clothing, hats and even sunglasses. If using a sunscreen when they're older, opt for a chemical filter-free option that uses titanium dioxide to protect skin.
