Makeup can age you: Young celebrities who are older than they look
Fast forward
Who can deny the transformative powers of makeup? Surely you've seen videos of crazy talented YouTubers painting their faces to look like anything but themselves. But more realistically, our primers, foundations, concealers, contouring kits, fake lashes, eyeliners and (insert more life-saving cosmetics here) have magically erased our fine lines, age spots, blemishes, eye bags, dull skin and bad decisions we made in life. Thanks to makeup, we'd always look fresh, glowy and — fingers crossed — not a day older than 25.
That said, there's a flip side to everything, even with makeup. It can award us radiance, it can bless us with temporary youth; but it can also make us look as though we drank the age Kool-Aid and lived an extra decade overnight. Case in point: Bella Hadid, Chloe Grace Moretz and the other oh-so-young below-30 celebrities in the gallery above. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look more mature (because the older you look, the likelier people will take you seriously), but if you've got a babyface, work it hun. What's the hurry? You've got the rest of your life to play catch up.
Below, we offer some makeup tips that'll enhance your features with less, not hide them behind a cake of products.
Let your skin breathe
Wear sheer foundations, cushions, and tinted sunscreen or moisturisers. The more skin you can see, the better; an obviously-covered complexion is the opposite of appearing youthful.
Conceal it right
Better yet, go barefaced when you can, aside from a couple dabs of concealer where you might need them, such as under the eyes or on redness around the nose. Do spot concealing with a brush for an even distribution.
Go easy with the contouring
Subtlety is key, so avoid shades that are two shades too dark. Not every nose, forehead, chin and temple need to be sharply defined. Instead, focus on strobing (aka highlighting) areas of your gorgeous face that catch light.
Steer clear of heavy smokey eyes
Instead, try shimmery colours that complement your skin tone. If you're feeling adventurous, try a bold eyeliner to make your peepers pop!
Remember, less is more.
