Best beauty destinations: Maison Sisley in Paris
Why it's worth the trip: Let's put it this way — when it's 9.50am in the morning and there are middle-aged women out in the cold waiting for the doors of Maison Sisley to open at 10am, you know it's going to be worth it. Sisley has been known for years as one of France's top beauty brands; their esteemed products what your mother and grandmother swear by, and the reason behind their ageless, glowing skin. Opened in April this year and spanning almost 4,000 sq ft, Sisley's brand-new beauty mecca in the heart of Paris' 8th arrondissement is the place to be at the moment. The first of its kind, this quiet oasis is bathed in modern elegance, and furnished with bold colours and artwork to encapsulate the spirit of the d'Ornano family. Waltz in to a warm cup of tea and personal skin consultation, where your therapist will take you through your concerns, skin sensitivities and preferred pressure points. Whether you've been on a 13-hour flight from Singapore, or been out on your feet all day at the Champs-Élysées, any fatigue miraculously melts away once you climb into one of Sisley's special heated beds. The five treatment rooms — including one double treatment room — were designed to be pure and understated, with suspended, lit ceilings depicting Gingko biloba leaves. Sink into your warm cocoon and let your therapist's magic fingers take over.
Star treatment: You've come all this way, so splash out on one of the four Paris Exclusives. Our pick? The Sisleÿa Supreme Treatment, a 90-minute soothing facial that targets the visible signs of genetic and environmental ageing. Expect a discerning layering of products, superb massage techniques (on your face, head, fingers and toes, no less) and a brilliant face mask that will leave your skin superbly plump and hydrated after. Their therapists speak perfect English, so don't hold back from telling them what you hope to achieve after the facial. Make sure you leave enough time after your treatment to relax at the lounge — touted the most personal part of the establishment, Isabelle d'Ornano wanted it fashioned like a small, private living room anyone could feel at home in.
Insider tip: Drop by Sisley's secret café, located at the back of the Maison, for fresh, healthy bites that rotate daily. Reserved exclusively for spa clients, this cosy space features ceiling lights made of recycled plastic bottles, and tables adorned with checks reminiscent of their makeup cases. Best of all, the café opens up to a beautiful small terrace, which offers the option of dining outside if the weather permits.
