Clé de Peau Beauté's new lipstick redefines luxury

Clé de Peau Beauté elevates the humble lipstick to a whole new level, with 12 shades inspired by Chinese art

Go ahead, treat yourself. Clé de Peau Beauté's new lipstick is not just any other lipstick. It's a little slice of luxury in one, sleek package. First up, the most noticeable thing about the new lippie is the shape of the bullet. Unlike the usual ones we're used to seeing, this one turns the traditional lipstick on its head. The innovative, S-shaped head hugs onto the contours of the lips even more closely, for an even, beautiful finish. The cream lipstick also has a rich texture and soft, satiny finish when worn and thanks to the argan oil in its formula, it feels sublime on the lips.

Every detail of the presentation is taken care of to the smallest degree. From the Clé de Peau Beauté key logo engraved on the actual bullet, to the the luxurious black and gold case. Crafted by some of the finest masters in the world, it is made using a diamond blade that rotates a whopping 4,000 times per second. Taking pride in each and every piece, each case is perfectly weighted so that your application experience will be smooth and pressure-free.

And then we have to talk about the colours. In 12 shades, each one was inspired by elements of Chinese art. Says the brand's creative director of makeup Lucia Pieroni, "A few years ago, I was lucky enough to see the exhibition 'China: Through the Looking Glass at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. It explored the influence of Chinese art, ceramics, and textiles on Western culture — art, film and, above all, fashion. It was a show monumental in scope and depth. Since the era of the Silk Road, magnificent silk fabrics and embroideries were used in the handcrafting of the garments of the royal courts around Europe, marking the beginnings of haute couture as we know it today. Combined with the imagination and the innovative spirit of the West, those elaborate fabrics have inspired some of the most seminal and influential fashion collections. Paul Poiret, Yves Saint Laurent, Coco Chanel, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano — they are among the visionaries who have been inspired by the mystique of Chinese art. The intricacy of Chinese art is formidable and in more ways than not reflects the depth, passions and hidden layers of the Clé de Peau Beauté woman. It is this complexity — in all its subtle power and profound beauty — that I tried to unlock with this latest collection." From the soft pink of 'Chinoiserie' to the rich plum-red of 'Pillow Book', there's literally a shade for every mood, whim and look.
