Best beauty collaborations in 2020: Morphe x Pony Park, Kylie x Stormi, Anastasia Beverly Hills x Amrezy, etc
Fresh out of the oven
We're all about positive thinking, but even the most optimistic lot are sceptical about the odds of yet another year of stellar beauty collaborations. All hits and no misses is a tall order, and 2019 did bring their A-game with team-ups ranging from fashion legends (L'Oréal x Karl Lagerfeld) to epic film franchises (Pat McGrath x Star Wars). Topping it is no easy feat — but it seems 2020 is up for the challenge. February is off to a good start, with Morphe and Wet N Wild introducing all-new celebrity alliances sure to get beauty junkies buzzing. Without further ado, we present the dynamic duos of note, below.
Makeup Revolution x Friends
As you patiently await their on-screen reunion, might we suggest you indulge in some makeup befitting of everyone's favourite friend group? Show your support for your preferred character with a dedicated gloss emblazoned with the name of either Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Chandler, Joey, or Ross. Failing that, you can also pick up eyeshadow palettes, scrunchies, and cosmetic bags harbouring prints that pay homage to the sitcom. We're talking pink and red lobster-adorned pouches, that one gilded mirror, and more.
Makeup Revolution x The Nightmare Before Christmas
This Halloween/Christmas hybrid collection is dropping a whopping 36-pan eyeshadow palette, brushes, highlighters, glosses, and more within that vein. Much like the movie, each item features skeleton prints, hues, and textures that pay homage to its whimsy and dark humour.
Shu Uemura x One Piece
The Japanese label is (fittingly) dedicating their holiday range to one of the longest-running manga series of all-time. Cult products are outfitted in variations of blue and gold — One Piece's signature colours — and comes with artistic renderings of fan-favourite characters such as Luffy and Chopper.
Colourpop x Hocus Pocus
Was there any doubt that Colourpop would make the list again? Just in time for Halloween, CP will be launching a collection spotlighting the cult film released in 1993. Expect the Sanderson sisters to grace your eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, and glorious glitter pots galore.
Paul and Joe Beauté x Doraemon
This marks Paul and Joe Beaute's second team-up with the iconic earless robotic cat. He's joined by Mii-Chan this time on the brand's face powders, balms, primers, and several makeup bags. Fans should be warned, however, that pre-sales only begin in early October, while its official launch kicks off in November. All the more reason to start saving up some coin, we say.
Supreme x Pat McGrath
Touted as the fashion label's first-ever beauty collaboration, we foresee this lippie hitting sell-out (and re-sale) status as soon as it launches. While there's no word on its official release date, we do know that it is developed exclusively for Supreme's fall/winter 2020 collection; harbours Pat McGrath Laboratories MatteTrance formulation; and comes in a single, fiery scarlet hue titled 'Supreme.' Memorise those credit card deets, we say, lest you miss out on scooping up one of the most hyped collabs of the year.
M.A.C Cosmetics x Kakao Friends
Originating as stylized emojis from popular Korean messaging app, Kakao, these set of characters have become an institution on its own. See: the multitude of Kakao Friends stores that have cropped up in Seoul. Bearing this in mind, it's hardly a surprise that they've branched out into makeup, too. In August, lipsticks from M.A.C. Cosmetics are given the Kakao treatment with Ryan, Neo, Apeach, Muzi, and Frodo adorning fan-favourite hues such as Ruby Woo and Lady Danger.
Colourpop x Candyland
The popularised children's board game brings its fun, saccharine sweet sensibilities to Colourpop's cosmetic range. This translates to a candy-coated eyeshadow palette; lollipop flavoured glosses; marbled blushes; lip balms; and a powder.
Il Makiage x Rico Nasty
The rapper and beauty icon will be dropping not one, but two eyeshadow palettes with the brand. It's a fitting match-up as any; Il Makiage prides itself on "makeup for maximalists", an aesthetic very much in line with Rico Nasty's audacious beauty choices ranging from gelled spikes to white mascara-coated lashes. As she so aptly puts it via Instagram, this collection is one "for the everyday big ballers!!!! For the ppl who like to make their OWN rules!!"
M.A.C. Cosmetics x Teyana Taylor
Taylor brings her explosive personality over to M.A.C.'s latest range, an ensemble comprising four lip liners, four Lipglasses, three lipsticks, and a highlighter-bronzer Mineralize Skinfinish. Each offering is encased in '90s style neon packaging, which Taylor credits as the main source of inspiration for the line. "We went through so many different '90s campaigns," she stated in an interview with Allure. "we wanted something that represented classic beauty when it wasn't too much going on."
Kimchi Chic Beauty x Naomi Smalls
It's nice to see that reality TV friendships are real, after all. Everyone's favourite Drag Queen alum, Kim Chi, has partnered up with TV — and IRL — best friend, Naomi Smalls, to launch a desert-themed collection. Greens, coppers, and bronze takes centre stage amongst lip glosses, a face palette, as well as an 24-pan eyeshadow palette.
Wet n Wild x My Melody Kuromi
Brace yourself for cuteness overload. The iconic animated character is gracing Wet n Wild favourites in the vein of their pigment-packed eyeshadow palettes, velvety-soft face brushes, budge-proof lip glosses, and more. Scoop up the cosmetic bag to round up the full collection.
Pur Cosmetics x Raw Beauty Kristi
The complexion authority of beauty has joined hands with MUA, Raw Beauty Kristi, to produce an eyeshadow palette duo and lash set. Their presale initiative has already hit sold-out status, but that's not to say you can't get your hands on the goods. According to their Instagram, a pre-sale restock is coming your way. Phew.
Tony Moly x Minions
No, the minion craze hasn't quite died down yet. Their banana-yellow visage will be donning everything from cleansing wipes to clear glosses at Tony Moly this season; a project that was supposedly a year in the works.
Kendall x Kylie by Kylie Cosmetics
The long-awaited collection is here, folks. The end of Kendall's contract with Estée Lauder has led to the inception of Kendall x Kylie; a full line-up comprising glosses, blushes, bronzers, and an eyeshadow palette. From what we can tell, the range favours neutral hues regularly sported by the duo accompanied— with the occasional pop of bright orange and yellow.
Morphe x Maddie Ziegler
The dancer, singer, and actress is bringing her joyful sensibilities to her first-ever makeup collection with Morphe. This translates to "butterfly brights, blushing bronzes" and "super bold hues" that beginners can still rock with ease on the day-to-day. That's not all — you can also expect ultra-handy dew sticks, sheer cheek tints, and glosses while you're at it. Speaking of more Morphe collaborations...
Morphe x Coca Cola
Quench your thirst for fun, vibrant makeup looks by indulging in Morphe's latest venture. Comprising an 18-pan eyeshadow palette; lip gloss; seven-piece eye and highlighter brush set; loose highlighter; and an array of sponges, we trust you'll be well-and-inspired for months to come.
Etude x Tsum Tsum
Disney's puzzle mobile game proves explosive in its reach. This year alone sees them expanding out into merch, accessories, and now, makeup. They've partnered up with the recently revamped Etude to drop an assortment of lip tints, powders, and more in June — all of which are housed in cases harbouring the mugs of iconic characters Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto. The Lip Tints, in particular, make for a whimsical new addition to any makeup bag, with each hue encased in packaging reminiscent of classic spinning tops. Nostalgia at its finest, indeed.
M.A.C. x Honour of Kings
And that's not all when it comes to makeup collections inspired by popular mobile apps. Next on the list: M.A.C. Cosmetics x Honour of Kings, China's highly-hyped online multiplayer game. Lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes, and pro-palettes are presented in colours that represent individual game characters and members of the virtual boy band, WXWZ. Neat.
FreshO2 x Donald Duck
The foil to the ever-good-natured Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck is all-set to steal the limelight in June - aka, his birthday month. Taiwanese label, Fresh O2, is facilitating this with their latest line-up of Donald and Daisy themed cosmetics. Think eyeshadow palettes, lip glosses, and a pouch to fit all your favourites.
E.l.f Cosmetics x Jkissa
It's coming up rainbows and roses for on-the-rise makeup guru, JKissa — so of course she's marking her debut collection with E.l.f. with a literal rainbow-hued palette. Think 18 pans of bright, vivid hues that are a statement in itself. Its casing is adorned with drawings of pit bulls, chew toys, and dog bones; a tribute to Angel City Pit Bulls, an animal rescue where Jkissa adopted her pups, Tsuki and Zuma. Create a full look using this larger-than-life palette and tag it #eyeslipsfacepaws. Each entry ensures a USD$1 donation to the rescue.
Stylenanda x Disney
Makeup mavens, rejoice. The collaborative effort between the cult fashion label and (arguably) the world's most beloved mouse includes its beauty arm, 3CE. Yes, that means fan-favourite formulations in the vein of the Tattoo Lip Tint, Multi-Eye Colour Palette, and Face Blush are now available as Mickey merchandise. Unfortunately, it is a Korea exclusive and can't be bought on our shores yet — but we have no doubt it'll be available online sometime soon. In the meantime, start saving up on coin.
The Face Shop x Coca-Cola
This is hardly the first time that The Face Shop has partnered up with the distinguished soda empire. See: 2018, where they dropped a range of Coke-themed lip tints and eyeshadow palettes. This time, however, sees the arrival of a BB Cushion housed within a case resembling a literal bottle cap (!) as well as Fanta and Sprite variant glosses. We'll take it.
Sephora x Stabilo
You're not reading that wrong — we're talking Stabilo, as in the German office supplies label specialising in quality pens and markers. Heck, you probably had a couple of these neon bad boys hidden in your pencil case back in the day. In what we consider to be the most unlikely (but not unwelcome) team-up of 2020, the brand has dropped felt eyeliner versions of the classic highlighter pen in four versatile hues. Who would have thought?
E.l.f. x Chipotle
If the shortage of Mexican food delivery places in your area amidst circuit breaker has you left you with severe burrito cravings, E.l.f. has you covered. To stave off those urges, cop foil-wrapped makeup bags, spicy glosses, as well as eyeshadows and primers inspired by the fast food chain's menu. Hey, anything to tide you through the rest of the month, right?
Bobbi Brown x Flower Girl NYC
Unless you've been living under a rock somewhere, you're probably well-aware of the drastic effects COVID-19 has had on small businesses. Bobbi Brown does, too — and is showing their support by partnering up with New York-based boutique flower shop, Flower Girl NYC. Their new range is inspired by founder, Denise Porcado's, visually-stunning bouquets. These beautiful blooms adorn the brand's signature Highlighters, Blush & Glow Duos, Crushed Oil Infused Glosses, and Shadow Stick Duos.
Morphe x Louis Casttro
The self-proclaimed "baddest perra" — and prominent MUA — is teaming up with Morphe this season to drop a vault of his makeup essentials from the brand. This includes a 40-pan Artistry Palette, a plumping gloss, three types of blending brushes, and a translucent eye primer to make sure all your hard work stays in place, of course. A must-buy for all you eyeshadow pros out there, indeed.
KKW Fragrance x Kris Jenner
And just in time for Mother's Day, too. The Kim K and Kris Jenner perfume is an amalgamation of both their favourite scents including creamy white gardenia and rich tuberose. Fun fact: its unique hexagonal flacon supposedly represents each of Jenner's kids. Aw.
Estée Lauder x Lady Aiko
Distinguished Japanese street artist, Lady Aiko, is swapping out her usual canvas for the brand's signature skincare lotions and Pure Colour Envy Lipsticks. Her interpretation of the cult-favourite Micro Essence translates to towering waves, imposing mountains, and delicate Sakura blooms as pictured. Available for a limited-time only, so don't spend too much time deliberating before adding 'em to cart.
Jeffree Star x Shane Dawson... again
The Conspiracy collection made a historic splash last year. So why not expand upon that? Literally, of course, with three new mirrors in variations of green as well as a limited-edition eyeshadow hue titled 'Put It Back' added to the line-up.
Revlon x WW84
As with Mulan, the Wonder Woman sequel release has been pushed back to August. You can, however, still adorn your mien in enough technicolour paint to do Diana Prince — and her new '80s-inspired costume — proud. You'll have options abound considering the comprehensive range of lip hues, nail polish, and highlighters alongside an eyeshadow palette.
Ulta x Black Widow
Fans of the MCU will be pleased to know that OG Avenger, Natasha Romanoff, is kicking off her solo career with a full makeup range. Done in collaboration with beauty giant, Ulta, it features an 18-product lineup including a 12-shade eyeshadow palette, two face palettes, four lip kits, four lip glosses, four brushes, and a trio of makeup bags. Chances of getting a snapped face with this collection? High. Inheriting Black Widow's superhuman speed and charisma? Eh, not so much. We'll take it.
Onitsuka Tiger x Shu Uemura
Nothing says you've earned your stripes within the makeup sphere quite like owning one of the most highly-anticipated releases of the year. In this case, it's anything from Onitsuka Tiger x Shu Uemura's range. Fan-favourite formulations in the form of eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, cleansing oils, as well as a foundation brush and eyelash curler are given a face lift with the fashion house's signature bold pops of colour. Keep an eye out for their collaborative sneaker, too, which is made from a glossy enamel and painted in vivid hues of Tokyo Red, Energy Orange, and Indigo Blue.
M.A.C Cosmetics x Selena La Reina Part II
Nope, the brand is not quite done commemorating this living legend yet. In fact, we'd say they're going above and beyond, with this month's release seeing a collector's vault hitting stores. It contains a bevy of lipsticks, lip glosses, an eyeshadow palette, and highlighter all sealed within a leather pouch bedazzled with crystals and gems. How fitting.
Innisfree x Mentos
Coming up to bat with another sugary sweet collaboration is beloved K-Beauty label, Innisfree. This time, they've taken the fan-favourite No Sebum Mineral Powder and given it a makeover in the form of adorable pastel packaging reminiscent of the vintage Mentos cases. Might we request one in every hue?
Colourpop x Mulan
The pandemic situation has delayed the premiere of this highly anticipated live-action remake, but that's not to say you'll be all too deprived from this fan-favourite flick. Re-watch the animated rendition — Disney+ should be coming to our shores sometime soon — and paint your visage in the official makeup collection comprising an eyeshadow palette, pressed powder blushes, lipsticks, and a lip gloss.
PÜR Cosmetics x Trolls
In a surprising twist, animated feature Trolls World Tour has not delayed their official release date. It will, however, be available for viewing via on-demand streaming platforms so as to facilitate self-isolation. Neat. Get in the mood by decking out your mien with PÜR X Trolls World Tour Travel-Sized Pressed Pigment Palettes while you're at it; a kaleidoscope of budge-proof, long-lasting hues sure to stay on through even the most drawn-out of movie marathons.
Morphe x Saweetie
This marks the brand's first collaboration with a musician. Their pick: up-and-coming rapper and social media tour de force, Saweetie. Oozing attitude, glamour, and a whole lot of pigment, The Platinum Collection includes an 24A Artist Pass Eyeshadow Palette, multiple glosses, brushes, and a setting mist to seal all that hard work in. How thoughtful.
Sola Look Cosmetics x Charmed
Ah, anyone else remember this hit '90s TV show? With cult-classics 90210 and Gossip Girl scoring reboots, we suppose it was only a matter of time before Charmed resurfaced on our radar once more. And while it's not Alyssa Milano reprising her role as much-adored witch, Phoebe Halliwell, it is an eyeshadow palette shaped in the form of the Book of Shadows. We'll take it.
Revlon x Ashley Graham Tropical Vibes
It's all sunny days ahead for this supermodel. Fresh off birthing her first child, she's since dropped a new collection with multinational cosmetics corporation, Revlon. As its name suggests, Tropical Vibes is all about summery, vacation-island essentials ranging from an eyeshadow palette in bronzed, burnished gold hues and glimmering highlighters for both face and body.
Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Palette Volume 2
The news of Jaclyn Hill's second palette with Morphe broke after a retail mix-up, where a Twitter user who ordered the first iteration received the latest edition instead. The YouTuber then came forward to address the rumours, revealing that the 35-pan palette sold was the real deal, and that people had stolen it from the production warehouse to sell them on secondhand sites. Rocky start aside, fans are already swooning over the bold yet versatile line-up in the brand's signature pigment-packed formulation.
Wet n Wild x Bretman Rock
The social media maven may have just gotten his own reality show, but he's not planning to rest on his laurels anytime soon. Instead, he's teamed up with drugstore brand, Wet n Wild, to drop a full collection. We're talking a 15-pan eyeshadow palette, highlighter, lip gloss, setting spray, and a brush set in vibrant, vivid hues that pays homage to his hometown in the Philippines.
Clinique x Kakao Friends
It's largely agreed upon that you don't mess with perfection — aka cult-classic formulations — within the beauty sphere. Unless, of course, you're talking about just tweaking the packaging to make it more aesthetically appealing than before. And that's what Clinique did with their Cheek Pop: rendering the friendly faces of Kakao Talk, the favoured Korean chat app, onto their blushes. Pick between three different designs featuring beloved characters Ryan, Apeach, and Neo.
Physicians Formula Rosé All Day x ExteriorGlam Collection
Notable name, Foinika Kay, will be leaving her mark with a curated collection of Physician Formula's products. Yes, that's lipsticks, highlighters, and eyeshadows in shades of brick and nude, all of which comes with antioxidant-rich kakadu plum and rose to grant a healthy, nourished complexion.
The Stormi Collection by Kylie Cosmetics
It's hardly a surprise that a Kylie x Stormi Webster range is underway considering the beauty mogul's penchant for joint ventures with members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan. Set to launch 1 February, the full line-up includes three mini lip kits, a gloss set, a pressed powder palette, and a 12-pan eyeshadow palette adorned in butterflies.
Morphe x Pony Park Icy Fantasy Collection
Remember when the Internet collectively lost their cool after makeup guru, Pony Park, dropped a hyper-realistic Elsa transformation tutorial? Yes, that's the animated character from Disney's Frozen, mind. Then she revealed that she'll be the face of Morphe's new Icy Fantasy range, and all hell broke loose as the community scrambled to get their hands on the limited edition palette. A 35-pan wonder comprising matte, shimmer, and iridescent shadows in cool pastel hues, it's probably best you snap it up soon before it (inevitably) sells out.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Palette
Beauty and lifestyle influencer, Amra Olević Reyes, is no stranger to collaborating with ABH. The Amrezy palette actually marks the second time she's worked with the label - her first drop, the Amrezy Highlighter, actually sold out within minutes in 2018. Response has been equally as passionate for her second launch, with movers and shakers of the industry lauding its rich pigments and incredible staying powder.
Etude House x Hershey's
Trust this K-Beauty house to deliver on yet another saccharine-sweet collaboration. Literally, that is, with famed chocolate manufacturer, Hershey's, making their first foray into the beauty sphere. Pick up eyeshadow palettes, lip tints, and eyeshadow brushes decked out in Creamy Milk Chocolate or Cookies 'N' Crème packaging come 1 February.
NYX Professional Makeup x The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
We're just two days away from the season 3 premiere of the delightfully campy Netflix series — and what better way is there to celebrate that than with a makeup collection, right? Thankfully, NYX Professional Makeup has seen to our needs with a 30-pan palette comprising vampy red and purple hues alongside shimmering pinks, cool blues, and a wide array of neutrals. There are also three Soft Matte Lip Cream duos to choose from so you can match your lips to embellished lids.
