About Face series: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Quibi show is about making it in the beauty industry
Blaze a new trail
It's nice to see that if there's one constant in the chaos of 2020, it is the horde of celebrities, influential figures, and bigwigs attempting to break into the beauty industry. With contenders ranging from Millie Bobby Brown to Bella Thorne, the question is no longer if one can craft, conceptualise, and come up with a cohesive brand message, but rather, if they can build an empire from it. And who better to ask than the biggest names within the industry? This, at any rate, is what latest beauty-focused series, About Face, is modelled around.
Developed, produced, and hosted by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, the six-episode series takes viewers to far-flung locations in the vein of Dubai and Seoul to speak to trailblazing founders and creatives within the field. It is said to be a "celebration of grit, diligence, and ingenuity"; a discovery of the factors behind each mogul's success.
As to what inspired her to embark upon this journey, Whiteley reveals that it largely had to do with the launch of her own beauty site, RoseInc. "When I launched my beauty website, I was learning more about the people behind these beauty brands by covering their products — and it quickly became obvious that we were only just scratching the surface," she states in an interview with Refinery29. "I knew each of these founders had a story to tell that brought a unique perspective to what it means to be an entrepreneur today."
Released 10 August, About Face's current star-studded line-up includes Kylie Jenner, Glossier's Emily Weiss, Pony, Huda Kattan, Jen Atkin, and Sir John. Viewers are routinely treated to gems about said hotshots' personal lives as well. Jenner, for instance, feels that the biggest misconception about her is that she's... a b*tch. "Everyone has this idea that female celebrities are just, like, b*tches," she declares candidly. "When people meet me, they're always shocked." Juicy deets, the inner workings of a billion-dollar company, and makeovers aplenty? We're riveted already.
