In the spotlight this week:
Kat Von D Beauty Ultra Ink Liner

If there's one thing Kat Von D Beauty excels in, it's delivering some of the best eyeliners in the market. The latest addition to their already impressive arsenal, the Ultra Ink Liner, claims to be of no exception. Just when you think KVD is approaching BTDT territory (that's 'been there done that' for you), it throws a curveball. As the bigger, bolder sister to the cult favourite Tattoo Liner, Ultra Ink Liner is said to inherit all the good of its sibling, with the volume turned the heck up. Its tune goes something like this: an ultra-black, high-intensity pigment that doesn't fade or abate no matter where you are or what you're doing. This budge-proof formula coats a flexible felt-tip pen which promises bold wings in single swipes. Naturally, all that good stuph is waterproof. Is this everything we're looking for in an eyeliner? On paper, it's meant to fly, so hopes are high.
Second Place
For better or for worse, every eyeliner Kat Von D Beauty has released and will ever release after its Tattoo Liner reached icon status is bound to draw comparisons. Us beauty fanatics at Buro. Singapore take the matter so seriously, we dedicate an article just for this purpose, one we constantly update because liner-isms are no joke in our world. If you must know, Ink Well's colourful pigmentation won us over while Lash Liner's gel formula left little to be desired. We never thought this day would come, but the new Ultra Ink Liner may just knock them all out of the park. Yes, even that which we have long rested on a pedestal. For one, I was able to draw the thinnest of lines thanks to the Ultra Ink Liner's skinny felt-tip applicator — music to the ears of us Asians flaunting single eyelids or thin double eyelids like mine. The felt-tip is also super soft. Frankly, it's much softer than I'm used to as I prefer a stiff marker/pen applicator with a shakeable ink cartridge. Hence, my usual method of quick long strokes didn't really work here; the Ultra Ink Liner's soft "brush" encourages short strokes, a technique preferred for crisp, precise flicks. To test the strength of its vows of longevity, I went to the gym with one eye done up using Tattoo Liner and the other using Ultra Ink Liner. I wore them both as is — no primer, no eyeshadow, just me and my oily lids. Forty-five minutes of hell later, an acceptable hint of a shade appeared under both eyes. It's worth noting that the eyeliners wore off in different ways; Tattoo Liner smudged, Ultra Ink flaked. On intensity-free days, they reacted similarly… 12 hours later.

Love at First Swipe
I love eyeliner. LOVE. And I fell head over heels with the Kat Von D Beauty Ultra Ink Liner as soon as I used it. This eyeliner is extremely, extremely black, which is fantastic because most eyeliners are always a touch grey; even when it starts off black, it eventually turns grey. Why? If you can explain this strange phenomenon, please DM me. However, this eyeliner doesn't do that — it draws on black, and stays black. I love the fine tip because it means that you can go in between the little lashes to really make the lash line look bigger, deeper, and fuller. That little flick I do when I want a cat-eye is, yep, so much easier now too. That tick is sharp, guys! It also has a sponge applicator, which means my application is not too wet, glides on like a dream. Totally foolproof. Another bonus is that it's waterproof, and it won't budge even when you want it to. It's one of my new favourites.

Woah is Me
One of many new additions to the vegan line, Kat Von D Beauty's Ultra Ink Liner, dubbed as the 'one swipe wonder', holds true to its name. I've always carried the cult classic Tattoo Liner in my kit as a staple. Not many have been able to take its place but this new addition definitely made the cut. The flexible and porous felt-tip allows for a smooth release of pigment and truly glides on with ease over the most pigmented of eyeshadows. A simple adjustment of how heavy a hand you use would determine how thick your lines are drawn out — I can literally write calligraphy with this if I wanted to. Ultra Ink Liner's fine tip makes wing liners easier to draw and even easier to fill in closer to the lash line. Its sturdy formula and smudge-proof claims held true for even the oiliest of eyelids during long hours. Fleshier eyelids that touch the lower lash line when blinking had no transfer of pigment either. It is a true black compared to its predecessor and it has a little bit of playtime before drying down into permanent perfection.

A Game Changer
I have swapped my precise liquid liner for a softer, smudged eyeliner look for a while now… that is until I got the Kat Von D Ultra Ink Liner into my makeup kit. Extremely courageous for a makeup artist to have tried this, but the first person I applied this product on was my client instead of myself. The tip of this liquid liner is the essence of the product — it differentiates itself from all other liquid liners out there by giving us the smoothest, most flexible tip you can ever imagine. No offense to drugstore beauty brands, but this is not your typical Silkygirl or Maybelline super-thin tip. Let me explain: this thick tip squeezes out the right amount of product you need for a super clean, smudge-proof eyeliner look. It draws on very dark and it has a semi-matte finish — refreshing in comparison to the usual ultra glossy or extreme matte looks we're used to seeing. If you're not a cat-eye pro yet, this eyeliner will get you closer to achieving that sleek, sharp flick in the outer corners of your eyes. It's idiot-proof, and I'm living for it!
