You first saw it as a flamboyant punk revival of stylised skull motifs, and now RJ-Romain Jerome is revealing a different facet to this archetypal emblem with a new twist on the Skylab 48 Speed Metal Skulls collection that incorporates a free spirited element. Picking up on the '80s punk design codes that defined the first launch, this new limited edition variant affects much of the same technical aspects such as the black PVD-coated steel casing and the distinctive chrome skeleton movement, all framed within an unchanged 48mm-diametre frame.
What does stand out as noticeably different at a mere glance, is the addition of a satin-brushed internal bezel, notched with crimson skulls to indicate the passing hours. And doubling as red beacons that draw the eye inwards, these skulls highlight the complexity of the skeleton timepiece and its triple-layered manual winding RJ004-M calibre. Designed in-house by RJ-Romain Jerome, the remarkable network of gears and components also boast a small seconds counter at 9 o'clock, the balance wheel at 6 o'clock, and the barrel at noon. Unmistakably daring, a hornback crocodile leather strap lined in scarlet stitching adds to the maverick nature of this exclusive Skylab 48 Speed Metal Skulls, distinguishing this punk-inspired watch with a rugged class that speaks to the fashionable rebel.
The 9-piece limited edition RJ-Romain Jerome Skylab 48 Speed Metal Skulls is available at authorised retailer The Hour Glass.
