Who would have thought that the terrifying spider could be turned into a thing of beauty? Yet that is exactly what Natalie Portman (you know her: Oscar-winning actress, now a budding director) did when she dreamed up the design for her first collaboration with esteemed watchmaker Richard Mille. Embodying feminine energy and creativity, the symbolism of the spider is fascinating, and it is precisely why Portman chose it as the key image for her timepiece.
The construction of the watch itself is a fusion between high jewellery and fine watchmaking: The RM 19-01 manual winding tourbillon caliber is assembled around a black rhodium-plated, 18 carat white gold black sapphire set baseplate, while the spider motif is made of gold and set with diamonds. Coming in two versions exclusive to Asia, the stunning timepiece is a celebration of Portman's many accomplishments.
The Tourbillon RM 19-01 Natalie Portman Asia Exclusive Black Sapphire and Black Ceramic are limited editions of three and five pieces respectively and are available exclusively at Richard Mille boutiques in Asia.
