Shades of camo: Ralph Lauren’s Safari Grand Date timepieces
Dream of Africa
The romance of adventure comes alive as Ralph Lauren introduces two new iterations in the Safari collection that cut bigger and bolder proportions than ever before. Instantly pinned with a ruggedness that emphasises an adventurous spirit and the sense of derring-do, the new pair of RL67s sport a sizeable 50mm diametre for a more prominent read-off, especially when it comes to the date display, lending the timepieces a mien of urbane utility. Underscoring its status as one of the brand's iconic models, the gritty vibe is parleyed with a layer of elegance via an 'aged' steel case, gleaming a gorgeous patina crafted using a technical treatment that frames two different dials — one an azure-varnished camouflage and the other a matte-varnished anthracite.
Accompanied by SuperLuminova indices and hands, as well as a baton pointer in a pop of orange that deliver a dimensional depth to the watch faces, the graphic façade is further bolstered by a mechanical self-winding RL3105 calibre that chalks up a 42-hour power reserve. Further fortified with a water resistance of up to 100 metres, the anthracite edition is fitted with weathered-looking olive green canvas straps — a reference to that quintessential explorer's shoulder bag and a nod to the original 2013 RL67 watch — while the camo version fronts a dressier look in alligator straps. A colour palette carefully selected to convey the spirit of safari, there's no doubt to the inherent call of the wild every which way you view the timepieces. And if that's not stimulus enough to tread a little on the untamed side with the Safari Grand Date, let Mr. Lauren's words of wisdom convince you: "Safari is about living the life you want and pushing yourself beyond your limitations. It's the dream of experiencing the wild and seeing the farthest reaches of the world."
The Safari Grand Date timepieces are available at Ralph Lauren boutiques and authorised retailers.
