What are the constituent parts that make a watch iconic and timeless? In breaking down the components that make up their renowned Luminor timepiece, Officine Panerai recreates a classic that surfaces upon the vestiges of its historic foundations to emerge as a modern marvel known as the Luminor Due. Remaining authentic to the '50s aesthetic of the original, this new reinvention comes to life under the craftsmanship of Panerai Manufacture's designers and engineers, manifesting a contemporary functionality captured in a streamlined silhouette.
Fabricated in the famed cushion shape with a sizeable dial surrounded by a raised bezel and integrated lugs, the Luminor Due resonates the house's creations made for the Italian Navy spanning the '30s to the '50s. With the lever crown encased in a bridge-shaped device that protects the watch from shock and damage, a sun-brushed finish dial and a petite seconds counter at 9 o'clock, every unique aspect of the Luminor has been translated into a sophisticated piece of haute horlogerie exemplary of the maison's expert watchmaking technique.
Available in two editions, the 42mm-sized Luminor Due 3 Days and a larger 45mm Luminor Due 3 Days Automatic, the former boasts the slimmest casing within the collection while the latter is the first Luminor watch equipped with an automatic winding movement. Supplied with a three-day power reserve, the Luminor Due 3 Days runs on a hand wound P.1000 calibre that includes two spring barrels and twin bridge supports for utmost stability and security. An intricate assembly that can be viewed when the timepiece is flipped over, a transparent caseback reveals the skeletonised calibre spinning in perfect synchronisation.
Building on this ingenious structure, the automatic version is similarly equipped with an in-house manufacture movement: The P.4000 calibre, crafted at Neuchâtel in Switzerland with a distinct decentralised micro-rotor that rotates bi-directionally to provide energy into its twin spring barrels for maximum precision. Likewise housed in an open back casing, a 22K gold oscillating weight bearing the Clous de Paris decoration embellishes the Luminor Due 3 Days Automatic, cementing the new collection as an undeniable prevalent icon that combines elegance with the spirit of Officine Panerai.
The Luminor Due collection is available at Officine Panerai boutique at Ion Orchard, Level 01-18.
