Around the world with Louis Vuitton’s new Voyager GMT
Globetrot in style
Curating a travel watch can be a real conundrum, what with functionalities, complications and design options to consider — and all seasoned jetsetters know, any of these components can make or break the perfect globe-hopping timepiece. To save yourself the migraine-inducing process when you're next in the market for one, Louis Vuitton has unveiled a brand new talent in their Voyager collection that checks all the right boxes.
Say hello to the new Voyager GMT, the ultimate travel watch whose first incarnation embarked on its journey across the globe over a century ago and has since chalked up plenty of frequent flyer miles as its distinctive square-circle silhouette accompanied many an intrepid adventurer on their trips. Now revamped for a contemporary urban vibe, this sleek masculine timepiece is La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton's latest offering that merges the best of style and substance.
A trimmed down thickness, compact diametre of 41.5mm, ergonomic wearability and updated aesthetics in steel, anthracite and pink gold makes the Voyager GMT a sight to behold. Featuring a textured layering across its signature stainless steel case, the new additions gleam with its polished top yet exudes elegance with its satin-finished sides, dial and rounded hour markers. Cut with a bold 'V' down the centre of the watch face — an emblematic design conceived by Gaston-Louis Vuitton and subsequently became his personal symbol — this notable character graces the dial as an arrow and a watch hand. Marked at noon and also extending across the middle as a steel bridge, the icon is representative of a refined masculinity, with the tip of the centrepiece 'V' serving as the GMT indicator.
Equipped with an automatic wind to its mechanical movement, the Voyager GMT has a second time zone shown on a 24-hour calibrated disc that lets travellers discern the time with ease. Split into two contrasting colours to specify day or night, the GMT complication is an innovation that demonstrates the maison's creativity. Pairing this technical sophistication with their leather patrimony, the new timepiece utilises Louis Vuitton's Taurillon leather for an extraordinarily supple strap that hugs the wrist like a second skin — the final touch that rounds off the sought-after modern classic look the house has always exemplified. Of course, if you prefer an all-steel aesthetic, a bracelet version in alternating polished and satin-finish links is also available. With three stylish choices each boasting the best of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton's watchmaking, the Voyager GMT will prove to be the haute horlogerie travel pass that'll have your fellow jetsetters a few seats across glancing over in envy.
The Voyager GMT is available at Louis Vuitton boutiques.
