IWC launches the IWC Connect
IWC Schaffhausen is joining the world of wearable technology

With 147 years in the horology scene, IWC knows a thing or two about about the art of watchmaking, but its latest addition shows that innovation is still very much at the core of the brand. Announcing its foray into the wearable technology sector, the IWC Connect is the watchmaker's version of a smart device. It is an intelligent tool engineered to be attached to the straps of mechanical watches; what it does is that it tracks the wearer's activities, and allows it to control devices linked on the same network.

"Seeing that many of our customers and brand ambassadors are wearing connected devices alongside their IWC watches, we chose to work with a like-minded digital technology company to develop an elegant, aesthetically complementary solution," said Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen. "[So] we've engineered an intelligent design solution which perfectly integrates and underlines our product worlds."

With only a teaser video and photo available at the moment, we're equally intrigued by the luxury watchmaker's new technology offering as anyone. Could this be the horologist's answer to the Apple Watch? We'll just have to wait and see.
