In Chinese culture, the bamboo is considered the gentleman's plant and is a symbol of integrity. This summer, local jeweller Choo Yilin took the essential qualities of the bamboo to heart and turned them into a line of delicate jewellery featuring verdant jadeite bracelets and vibrant gemstone rings, complemented by the fine filigree of bamboo latticework, done in gold or silver. The collection brings out a modern Asian sensibility through its careful integration of the bamboo motif — it is quietly worked into ring settings, earring loops and bracelet decoration without screaming ostentatiousness.
More importantly, the collection also honours the non-profit work undertaken by UNIFEM's Project Endeavour, a charitable project aimed at equipping rural Cambodian women with useful skills in basket weaving, and aims to raise awareness about the importance of the organisation's work. Fashion with heart? That's something we can all get on board with. Consider us sold.
