Mourning the death of the great love of her life, Coco Chanel travelled to Venice at the behest of her friend to escape the sadness of Paris and the memories it carried. Unexpectedly, she discovered a city filled with elements that would later become inspiration for her collections. One of these symbols was the lion, that features in the Sous Le Signe De Lion collection.
A majestic creature, the lion represented not only Chanel's zodiac star (Leo) but also the strength she chanelled in her time of need. First seen in the Chanel High Jewellery world in 2012, the newest addition to the Maison's High Jewellery collection comes in three designs.
Roughly translated into 'Under the star of the Lion', the collection is made up of the Lion 'Arty' made from a single gold monolith, a Lion 'Pépite' sketched out in curved lines and the Lion 'Perles' that incorporates the use of pearls in its design. The lion motif is seen on bracelets, rings, necklaces, earrings and cuffs. In true Coco spirit, the collection balances the strength and elegance of the majestic creature, the traditional codes of the Maison and the formidable woman behind the brand.
