#FirstClassFriday: The Bulgari Octo Finissimo
Slim and on time
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo created amazement among the mechanical watches aficionados at this year's Baselworld for crafting one of the lightest and slimmest watches equipped with a minute repeater currently on the market. On 14 December, Bulgari chose Singapore to unveil a further evolution of this already iconic watch at an exclusive private dinner at CUT by Wolfgang Puck, Marina Bay Sands.
Produced in only 50 pieces, the Octo Finissimo with small second features a 5.15mm thick titanium case with a transparent case back, titanium crown set with ceramic and a skeletonised titanium dial of roman numbers — rather than the Arabic numerals seen in the model presented at Baselworld.
"The titanium is a very high-tech material which we treated to obtain a very special and unusual finish, which makes this Octo Small Seconds Special Edition quite stylish and unique. In fact, we treated the titanium as we did for the Octo Minute Repeater for which the titanium was additionally chosen for its technical properties, such as the ability to amplify the vibration of the chiming device," said Guido Terreni, Bulgari Watches managing director who personally met prospective clients at the exclusive dinner.
The Octo Finissimo feels featherlight and snug around the wrist as a part of it — a rather bewildering sensation when thinking of the complex mechanical mechanism one can admire from the transparent case. With a width thinner than a Swiss five Franc coin, this ultra-thin movement is a mechanical innovation that pushes the boundaries of style and substance.
