Ralph Lauren is a consummate master of his world. When he first introduced the Safari collection in 1984 he fused travel and adventure with a timeless elegance expertly reflected in his khaki suits, linen shirts and mirrored aviators. And for SIHH 2015, the rustic masculinity of this world has again been captured in the RL67 Safari watch collection.
With a blackened 'aged' finish on a robust stainless steel case, strapping on the Safari Chronometer is like taking a shot of testosterone: the COSC-certified self-winding caliber RL300-1 movement turbo-charges your watch game, while a matte-varnished khaki dial (or alternatively, an azure camouflage face) packs on some serious style points. Nasty side effects? None to speak of, unless you count an inflated self-worth.
Crafted with function in mind, the timepiece is rigorously unfussy — save for utilitarian screw heads on the bezel and an orange seconds hand — and comes with a brown alligator strap for the khaki-coloured dial or a dark olive alligator strap for the camo version. Both variations are available in a 45mm or 39mm case size.
