A weekend spa-cation at Capella Singapore is what we all need right about now
Leave the world behind
Spa-cation: A spa vacation. In the millennial world of staycations and mini-moons, a spa-cation is by far our favourite. How can paradise begin without sending our bodies first into relaxation central?
And if there's anywhere on our island-state idyllic enough for a spa-cation, it's the one place in Singapore that truly doesn't feel like Singapore — Capella on Sentosa Island. Residing on 30 acres of lush rainforest and surrounded by exotic birds, this super luxe hotel is in itself its own unique haven. Capella's stately white colonial buildings hark back to Singapore's storied past, while its specially commissioned art pieces and sleek architecture lend modern touches to the impressive space. Even though there are 112 guestrooms across all its categories, there's a big chance you won't be running into anyone before breakfast the next day. The grounds are massive enough to feel like you own the property, and quiet enough to hear the toucans chirping and waves crashing.
Time to take a breather from life? Your restart button begins here.
Each room at Capella is assigned a Personal Assistant. Your friendly PA will call you a day or two before check-in, and ensure you have everything you need. Tea with honey and milk upon arrival, or a warm bath at 9pm? Just let them know, and they'll have it ready for you.
We like to dive straight into bliss mode. Upon checking in, head straight for the award-winning Auriga Spa for a pampering session you'll wish lasted forever. Save at least 30 minutes before or after to soak in Auriga Spa's luxurious spa facilities, including a garden-facing vitality pool, aromatherapy shower, and invigorating herbal bath. Looking for something that will ease tired knots and relieve tension in the body? Try one of Auriga Spa's signature massages, which are based on the varying energies of the lunar cycle. If you're after a strong massage that will revitalise your body and spirit, try New Moon, a deep full body muscle massage based on Swedish techniques. All treatments employ products from The Organic Pharmacy, which is suitable even for pregnant women.
Grab your tablets or books and make your way down to one of Capella's three exquisite pools. The first two are located near The Knolls, the hotel's all-day dining restaurant — these curved-shaped pools feature an infinity pool effect, where the waters tip gently over the edge. There's also unicorn floats for those looking for a bit of fun (or a photo opportunity). But our pool of choice is tucked away right at the bottom of the property — this hidden lap pool is a pure gem, and more often than not, it offers a private oasis that is all yours for the taking.
Here's another little secret we'll let you in on — besides a wide range of books, the library at Capella also offers a wide array of local snacks, biscuits, pastries, soft drinks, as well as freshly brewed tea and coffee. If you're after a snack, or some downtime with your books, this is the place to be.
Craving for Chinese? Head to Cassia. After a burger or a grilled Angus ribeye? The Knolls will sort that out for you. Or, if you're anything like us, and love the company of your closest family and friends in a cosy setting, book in for the hotel's Chef's Table experience. Hosted in a private space with a home-style kitchen, your personal chef of the day will fire up dishes suited to your cravings. Ideal for birthdays or special occasions (Christmas, anyone?), the space can take up to 20 people — your best crew only, please.
If you fancy a nightcap or a delicious tipple, pop in at the al fresco Bob's Bar, a glamorous Cuban-inspired bar that is the place to let your hair down. Whether that means sinking into one of their plush daybeds, or jiving to fun tunes while sipping on an Old Fashioned, we highly recommend finishing off your night here.
There's nothing better than tub time at the end of the day. All Capella's rooms, suites, villas, and manors come with at least one bathtub, complete with a full set of Aesop amenities. 'Nuff said, fill it up and soak right in — this is #worldbathtubdomination.
While nobody is forcing you to wake up early on a Sunday morning, if you wish to get a bit of light exercise in before you start the day, opt for the hotel's Sunday yoga session. All you have to do is make a reservation at least a day in advance with your PA.
With a plethora of options from sushi to cereal, a dedicated juice and egg station and a semi a la carte menu featuring waffles and laksa alike, you name it and they'll have it. Breakfast at The Knolls is entirely worth it, even for a non-morning person like me.
Now, back to the pool, bed, or the library? The choice is yours — a flexible check-out time can be arranged. It's all we could do not to try and stay another night.
