#TravelTuesday: A Peranakan-themed boutique hotel in Katong
New kid on the block
Hotel Indigo Katong flies the flag high for the historic Joo Chiat neighbourhood
Fancy tucking into jambus, lychees, teh tarik, and yuan yang for breakfast? For guests rising to a morning at the newly opened Hotel Indigo Katong, these distinctly local treats form a part of the breakfast spread served at the 131-room boutique hotel. Located next to I12 Mall, right in the heart of the vibrant Joo Chiat neighborhood, guests are also walking distance away from some of Joo Chiat's famed eateries — ranging from coconut-rich bowls of laksa at 328 Katong Laksa to the colourful array of Nyonya kuehs at Kim Choo Kueh Chang.
As with other properties sitting under the Hotel Indigo marquee, Hotel Indigo Katong draws its design influences from the neighborhood it's sited in. Expect to find light-filled rooms decked with all your creature comforts and touched with Peranakan motifs, carrom boards that double up as low-slung tables, and amenities fragranced with lemongrass and ginger — aromatic pantry staples of Peranakan cuisine.
While the neighbourhood is a veritable culinary melting pot in itself, guests don't have to go far for a taste of local and Peranakan cuisine. Baba Chews Bar and Eatery, the hotel's all-day dining restaurant, serves up such locally-inspired grub as ayam buah keluak and foie gras tau kwa pau.
