A weekend staycation at the revamped Shangri-La Singapore

24 hours of slowing yourself down, unwinding, and recharging — all within the stunning walls of Shangri-La Singapore

Oh, the beauty of staycations. You reap the greatest comfort of travel without having to sacrifice your precious leave dates or suffer any jet lag — all by checking into a luxurious hotel in Singapore. Call it escapism or delusion, and pretend you're not in the country if you'd rather. The idea behind it all is to hide away from weekend crowds and the scorching heat.

Ditching my weekend plans (psst... don't tell my friends), I hid out in the newly refurbished Shangri-La Tower Wing and boy, was it worth it. Here's what I got up to in the next 24 hours that ensued in this iconic 5-star hotel just off Orchard Road.

3pm
Check-in at the Tower Wing lobby. Play tourist by snapping a billion images of Shangri-La's state-of-the-art installations featuring key elements of stone, wood, water, trees and wind. Admire the striking foliage wall that took over 700 hours to install.

4pm
The only time you can escape for a cup of tea? While on a staycation. Head down to the exclusive Horizon Club Lounge on the 24th floor, and eat and drink your fill of complimentary coffee, cakes, and kuehs. Basically an all-you-can-eat afternoon buffet for anyone who checks in at the new Tower Wing.

5pm
After stuffing yourself silly with one too many scones, proceed to the next stop of indulgence — CHI, The Spa. For a personalised treatment, opt for a Bespoke Massage that sorts out your knots and tired aches best suited to your needs. Craving a local touch? Try uniquely Singaporean treatments like Tropical Treat and Singapore Wave, inspired by the local blend of energy and our multicultural heritage.

7pm
The idea of omakase dining can be a bit daunting at times — after all, it can be hard to trust someone you've never met to whip up a six-course meal to your liking. But at NAMI, expect only the freshest seasonal produce such as tuna belly, squid, and scallop. Our favourite dish? The braised wagyu beef rice bowl, topped with thinly sliced truffle and mixed Japanese mushrooms.

10pm
Nothing beats drawing yourself a nice, long bath. Don't forget to throw in the hotel's floral-scented bath salts.

11pm
Netflix till you crash. It's hard to stay up when you're lying atop a superbly comfortable king-sized bed.

10am
Sleep in, because it's mornings like this when you can truly repay your sleep debt. Once you're up and about, head back to the Horizon Club Lounge for a hearty breakfast. The international spread includes hearty porridge with condiments and toppings, pancakes, eggs done any way you like, and a counter stocked specially for the health buffs — i.e. almond and oat milk to go with your granola and muesli bowls.

12pm
Time to get ready to face the world. The room boasts a beautiful dresser, with optimal lighting to put your best face on.

1pm
Before leaving this Shangri-La heaven, indulge in authentic Italian fare at Waterfall Ristorante Italiano — we recommend copious amounts of burrata and that delectable al dente tagliatelle.

3pm
Thank God for late check-outs. Make sure you've got everything before you make your reluctant exit. Till next time, Shangri-La.
