Pure serenity: Recharge your mind and body at this celebrity-approved island getaway
A treat for all the senses
Nestled in a pristine corner of the South China Sea, Six Senses Con Dao offers things many aspire to achieve but few can actually deliver. Anyone familiar with Six Senses will already be well acquainted with what they offer. After all, this is the same getaway Brangelina and family chose to, well, get away from it all. With a knack for attention to detail, the five-star luxury resort's overall philosophy in ensuring every guest has the best possible experience is unparalleled.
Location, location, location
Home to nearly 1,000 people, Six Senses Con Dao is the only resort on the island. Con Dao refers to the archipelago of 16 islands in Southern Vietnam. The resort is situated on the island of Con Son, the largest on the chain. A protected marine reserve, it's needless to say that any kind of marine activity (which the resort can arrange) is undoubtedly breathtaking.
The history of the island dates back to 1702 when the British East India Company was said to have first settled on it. Later on, it became notorious as a convict island where political prisoners were exiled during the French colonial and American war. Despite its dark past, you'll be hard pressed to find a more relaxing place filled with serenity.
Rest and relax
The 50 villas stretch out over a mile-long private beach at the foot of a green forested hill. Unlike many other resorts, Six Senses Con Dao ensures privacy and seclusion. Nothing short of impressive, each villa is built with locally sourced materials that sync with the natural environment, enabling it to blend in perfectly.
Balancing environmental sustainability with luxury and comfort, you'll find opulence and extravagance presenting itself in the subtlest form without the unnecessary frills. Simply put, it's pure elegance without the awkward stuffiness.
Immerse in island life
Enjoying the comforts of your villa, taking in the breathtaking view and walking five steps to the beach will be top on your must-do list. But be spoilt for choice with the resort's 20 unique island activities. For the adventurous soul, there's no better way to explore and immerse yourself in the beauty of the island than hiking or mountain biking.
Culture buffs can partake in Vietnamese cooking classes or day and night tours to explore the island and learn about local life with experienced guides. Our pick? A Sense of Eerie, the night tour to Hang Duong memorial site and cemetery where the Vietnamese make pilgrimages to the island to pay respects to political prisoners of the past. Visit the tombs of Vo Thi Sau, Le Hong Phong and Nguyen An Ninh, and learn the importance of these fallen heroes to the island, people and country.
Wine and dine
The selection, range and flavours served at the two restaurants — By The Beach Restaurant and Vietnamese By The Market — at Six Senses Con Dao are plenty to satisfy any palate or craving. The focal area of the resort is designed to resemble the marketplace of a traditional local fishing village, where Vietnamese By The Market sits for a dose of yummy authetic local cuisines. For all-day dining, the main restaurant By The Beach offers both Western and Vietnamese dishes set against a stunning panoramic ocean backdrop. For a special night, don't be shy to plan an initmate dinner at the Chef's Table with a surprise menu prepared by the head chef. But the most enjoyable feasting you can get at the resort is its complimetary ice-cream bar that's open all-day. Enjoy a sundowner and the sea breeze on one of the many swinging seats at the Elephant Bar.
While spa treatments are often geared for relieving stress and pampering yourself, the Six Senses Spa is designed to provide physical and spiritual treatments and therapies that yield healing benefits. Ayuverdic doctor Dr. Aneesh and visiting practitioners provide one-on-one consultations to better assess and determine the best treatment for guests. Unlike many spas, Six Senses Spa provides holistic experiences that leave guests in a better state of mind and soul. We recommend booking an appointment with Dr Aneesh before any treatments.
Southeast Asia has many beautiful islands and spectacular resorts, but very few provide the exclusivity and tranquillity without being completely detached from the people, community and everyday life of the place. At Six Senses Con Dao, you are far removed from your hectic lifestyle to completely relax in a place of peace and contemplation.
