Frequent fliers who think they've seen the crème de la crème of airline lounges might want to think again. Yesterday, Etihad Airways unveiled its spanking new First Class Lounge & Spa at Abu Dhabi International Airport's Terminal 3, a luxe cocoon that takes its cues from private members' clubs, fine dining temples of gastronomy, and the world's most exclusive hotels.
Spanning over 1,700 square metres, the lounge offers all the bells and whistles that go a long way in soothing the tired traveller. At the in-lounge restaurant, they've done away with the typical buffet fare, offering instead an a la carte menu of Arabian, Indian, and International grub. Those with longer layovers can also tuck into a five-course Emirati tasting menu. Post-meal cigars (paired with whiskies and cognacs, no less) can be had at the cigar lounge while a team of barbers, hairdressers, and manicurists will spruce you up before you step onto that next flight.
Looking to loosen those stiff shoulders? There are two ways to get your circulation going. Work up a sweat in the fitness room or check into their Six Senses Spa, where First Class guests enjoy a complimentary treatment while those in The Residence get to experience two.
