Luxury you can definitely afford

It has been 10 years since Airbnb's co-founders Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia started one of the world's largest accommodation platforms. Their current standing? A total of 4.5 million abodes in 81,000 cities. What was initially conceived for solo travel has now catapulted into the global phenomenon in travel we see all over the world today.

But instead of resting on its laurels, the mega tech start-up has recently revealed exciting plans for its clientele worldwide — including a new tier of listings titled Airbnb Plus. Essentially what we would like to call the "Gold Class" series. These homes have all been personally verified for quality and comfort against a 100+ point checklist covering the bases of cleanliness, comfort and design. After all, it is only right to be picky about your vacation home.

"Is there a cohesive interior style?" At last, the carpet actually matches the drapes. "Is it equipped with a TV with media entertainment?" Unless you have Netflix or E!, the deal's pretty much off the table.

Catered towards guests who have a weakness for cutting-edge decor and brilliant service, here's where looking decent just won't cut it. Airbnb Plus is now currently available in 13 cities — Los Angeles, Shanghai, Cape Town, London, Sydney, Melbourne, Rome, Milan, Toronto, Barcelona, Chicago, Austin and San Francisco, with more to be added to the list by the end of this year.

That's not all. Airbnb has also rolled out another segment of Collections, which comprises of homes suited to specific occasions — Airbnb for Family and Airbnb for Work are the first two categories which have been launched on the site. Expect more to follow, including homes for social stays, honeymoons, weddings and group getaways.

Still think Airbnb is for couch-surfers and millennials on a budget? Their present and future plans will diffuse that statement. World domination sounds more like it.

Airbnb Plus homes are priced on an average of USD 250/night (SGD 330/night).
